It appears and it is said that the characteristics of the mind are continuous and uninterrupted. O Blessed One, by how much does a Bodhisattva meditate on dwelling in peace in one state? This is the second, asking only about meditating on dwelling in peace. Son of good family, by what constant attention does the uninterrupted mind attend? This is the second, as the Thus-Gone One said in the Yogācārabhūmi, uninterrupted attention is like this: at all times, whatever enters uninterruptedly and constantly, therefore, uninterrupted means constant, it should be understood. Thus, because stillness makes the mind not distracted, it is only the mind on the object. Furthermore, the uninterrupted mind means that its previous moment, the uninterrupted mind, becomes the object. Thus, there are two kinds of explanations, but the former explanation is better. In the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, it says that the characteristics of the mind are continuous and uninterrupted. O Blessed One, by how much does a Bodhisattva become a union of stillness and insight, and is called a union? This is the third, asking about the nature of the two entering simultaneously. Son of good family, by what one-pointedness of mind does one attend properly? This is the second, the Thus-Gone One answered truthfully. Among them, one-pointedness of mind means that stillness and insight enter simultaneously and focus on the object. Although this word is the same, the explanations are different, some people say that one-pointedness of mind means only consciousness in the conventional sense, because the object is not outside the mind, so it is called one-pointedness of mind. Or one-pointedness of mind is only exhausted, so it is called one-pointedness of mind. Or one-pointedness of mind means that in the ultimate sense it is also only consciousness, thus all dharmas are the nature of the one suchness, so it is called one-pointedness of mind. Some people say that "-ness" belongs to the conventional, therefore it is established in the treatises of the Yogācāra school, thus the nature of consciousness, in short, there are two kinds.

It is said: The first is the conventional truth, which is the nature of other-powered. The second is the ultimate truth, which is the nature of perfect accomplishment. This is what the sutra says. In the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, it says: The mind contemplates with one-pointedness. World-Honored One, what is the characteristic of the mind? And so on, this is to show the distinction of the second three aspects by repetition and exposition. This is also divided into three types because it explains the three aspects. This is the first aspect that is asked about. Noble son, for example, with the object of concentration, and with the image of conceptualization, what is the object of vipaśyanā? This is the correct explanation made by the Tathāgata. The characteristic of the mind mentioned above is the image of the object of concentration, and it is also the object of the mind of vipaśyanā. World-Honored One, what is the uninterrupted mind? And so on, this is to say that the second aspect is asked about. Noble son, for example, what is the object of śamatha that focuses on that image? This is the correct explanation made by the Tathāgata. Focusing on that image, corresponding to the two wisdoms of hearing and thinking, what is the mind with the aspect of reason? That is the object of the object of śamatha. World-Honored One, what is the one-pointedness of mind? And so on, this is to say that the third aspect is asked about. Noble son, for example, in that object of concentration, realizing that this is only consciousness, and after realizing it, attending to it as it is, this is the correct explanation made by the Tathāgata. In this way, at this time, all phenomena realize that there is no difference from consciousness, and after realizing it in this way, attending to it as it is. The previous two methods, because they realize that the mind and the object are separate, show that śamatha and vipaśyanā cannot enter simultaneously. This third method, because it focuses on the mixing of mind and object, shows that śamatha and vipaśyanā can enter simultaneously. The simultaneous entry of śamatha and vipaśyanā
