This will show the meaning of being called "I." If this example is explained by including both samadhi and distraction, then there are two explanations for this. Some say that even in the state of distraction, there is samadhi, so in reality, it is similar to the state of samadhi. Some say that in distraction, the mirror is an example of the fundamental form, form is an example of the manner of viewing, and the image (shadow) is an example of the manner of cause. Some say that the mirror is an example of the manner of viewing, the image (shadow) is an example of the manner of cause, and form is shown as an example of the manner of self-nature discrimination. They say this because, by the power of the manner of self-nature discrimination, it has completely transformed into the manner of viewing and cause, and although viewing focuses on the cause, those causes and viewing are not separate from self-nature discrimination, so it will be shown that it is said to be only consciousness. Similarly, when that mind arises, the object of samadhi appears vividly like different images (shadows), which is called the third, combining the example and the meaning. Like this, when the mind of samadhi arises in that way, because of confusion and error, one thinks that one sees a different image (shadow) appearing outside of the mind. But in the true sense, the signs that the mind has transformed are not separate from the mind, so it is said to be the mind, but it is not said that self-nature sees the mind because one sees something else outside of the mind. This is the concluding statement. Bhagavan, what is the mind and the object image (shadow) that abides in the nature of sentient beings and focuses on form, etc., is that also different from this mind? Like this, etc., the second is the question and answer, showing the distinction of the object of the distracted mind. This can also be divided into two: asking for a request and answering. This is the first asking for a request, in which the intention of asking for a request is that the object of samadhi, as the Bhagavan said, sentient beings are effortlessly and naturally abiding.

If it is said that the mind focuses on forms, etc., then what is the object of the images? Should it be said that it is not different from this mind?' To such a question, it should be answered: '(The mind and the object) are not different.' However, those deluded children do not truly know that images are merely consciousness, so they mistakenly think that (the mind and the object) are different.' This second situation, the Thus-Gone One also correctly answered: 'The object of the distracted mind is also not different from the mind, but because the minds of the foolish children are deluded, they think that images exist outside the mind.' What is the intention of the Blessed One in proclaiming only consciousness? Answer: In the extremely vast treatises such as the Hundred Treatises, as it is said in the sutras: 'The sutras say only consciousness, in order to cultivate only consciousness and abandon external objects.' If external objects are abandoned, the unreal mind can also be pacified. If the unreal mind is pacified, then the Middle Way can be realized. Therefore, the sutras say: 'If one does not understand that the object is only mind, then various dualistic discriminations arise. If one understands that the object is only mind, then no discriminations arise. If one understands that all phenomena are only mind, then one can abandon the characteristics of external objects. Therefore, when discrimination is completely pacified, one can realize true emptiness.' Foolish ordinary people cling to the enjoyment of external objects, enjoying the pleasures of various desires, but without a mind of renunciation, they therefore wander in samsara, sink in the ocean of the three existences, and suffer extremely unbearable pain, without the cause of liberation. Therefore, the Thus-Gone One, with compassion and skillful means, taught that all phenomena are only consciousness, thereby causing them to abandon attachment to external objects. Abandoning external objects themselves can also pacify the unreal consciousness. If the unreal consciousness is pacified, then Nirvana can be attained. Therefore, the sutras say: 'Just like a skilled physician in the world,
