Fifth, because the reason for establishing it is not seen, it should be refuted. The fifth is that it is unrelated, unconnected, and not substantially existent, like a middle Bhikshu. This is the third teacher of the Sutra School. Thus, there are three teachers of the Sutra School: Kumarata, Shrirata, and Bhikshu Rata. When the eye faculty focuses on the object of form, even though one sees one's own face, one thinks that one sees another image. This is in accordance with the correct treatises and reasoning, because they extensively refute speculations, and understanding will be achieved by analyzing there. Here, if combined with the teachings of the Mahayana, there are two explanations. The first is that if combined with the teachings from the chapter on "mind, intellect, and consciousness" within the sutra itself, it is like an image in a mirror. Therefore, from this very sutra, it can also be exemplified that, for example, if the surface of a mirror is very pure, if a condition for an object to appear is present, then only one image will appear. If conditions for two images, or many images, to appear are present, then many images will also appear. Furthermore, in the Sutra of the Holy Buddha Land, it says, "For example, images appear in dependence on the surface of a mirror." From "For example, the surface of a mirror depends on the condition of an object and becomes the cause for the appearance of various images" to the end. The second is from this very sutra itself, saying, "For example, on a very pure mirror surface, due to the condition of an object, even though the object itself is seen, one thinks, 'I see an image,' and one thinks that an object of experience, an image, appears apart from the object," and so on, relying on these. The explanations of the Mahayana teachers are also divided into two types. The first is the treatise of the teacher Nagarjuna, relying on the sutra verses just mentioned, as well as the Sutra of the Holy Buddha Land, etc., considering that the image appearing in the mirror is also independently existent, viewing it like the treatises of the Sutra School and oneself.

destroying it. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say in the commentary on the Noble Perfection of Wisdom Sutra that the form of a shadow and the form of an image are different. Why is that? Because the clarity of the eye meeting with a completely clean mirror, even seeing one's own shadow, obscures the light, so the image is merely an appearance, and there is no other dharma. If one says this, the answer is: things are not like that. For example, the image that appears in ghee is not the original form, and when sharpening swords, the face seen is large, and when looking up, the face is long, like this, the original is not the original face, and the image that appears in each crystal ball is not just an image of one face. Because of the cause and condition, it is not seeing the original form. Furthermore, the mirror and the name and appearance that completely hold exist, and because many conditions gather, the image arises. If it does not possess many conditions, the image will not arise, as it is explained in detail therein. These explanations and "seeing one's own face" are said to be the Sutra School's treatises that excellently explain the characteristics of metaphors, but they are not the meaning of the Mahayana. The second is the treatise of the Noble Maitreya. There are also two explanations for this. Some say that in the mirror there is another image, so when eye consciousness arises, it arises by focusing on the image that arises. If it is only form and there is no other image, then there would only be the aspect of viewing, and there would be no aspect of reason, so there would be the fault of the metaphor and meaning not being the same. Furthermore, in the teachings, the image of the mirror is shown as an example of other-dependence, and the flower in the sky is shown as an example of the nature of complete imputation, therefore there must be an image, which is included in the aggregate of form. In this sutra, it is necessary to refute the clinging that there is definitely an image separate from form, therefore, form is the cause, even if one sees the form itself, one thinks, "I have seen the form."
