Because of permanence, if one correctly contemplates the nature of things that should be fully understood, then one will definitely understand their merits and faults, as it is said in the sutra. The meaning of explaining other parts of the sutra is as previously stated. Some say that starting from shamatha and vipassana and distraction, this sutra is to explain this point, so it can be divided into two parts: one is to explain the practice of vipassana, and the other is the part from "Thus" onwards, which correctly explains the fundamental vipassana. The first part is also divided into two types: one is to explain the place of vipassana, and the other is the part from "How" onwards, which correctly explains the practice. Like this, because one has attained and abides in extreme pliancy of body and mind, and because vipassana arises relying on shamatha, it is inevitable that the mind of hearing and thinking will be distracted and practice. This correctly explains the practice of hearing and thinking itself. Why? Because the characteristics of shamatha and vipassana are different, even if one attains shamatha, the mind of hearing and thinking will still be distracted. The so-called "inner shamatha" does not refer to the mind being gathered and not distracted, abiding in true shamatha, therefore "inner" is said. The others are as previously stated. The practice and the fundamental stage, there are also two explanations for this. The first is from the image itself. The second is based on both the root and the image, and the meaning is as previously stated. In this way, the Bodhisattva is proficient in vipassana, which is the conclusion of the second part and the answer to the previous question. Bodhisattva Maitreya again asked the Bhagavan, "Bhagavan, if Bodhisattvas are in the object of focus, and the mind is attentive inwardly, until they have not attained extreme pliancy of body and mind, what name should be given to this attentiveness?" From this onwards is the fourth part, which explains the door of attentiveness that follows shamatha and vipassana. This can also be divided into two types: shamatha and following.

Showing the mental application that corresponds to the place, and showing the mental application that corresponds to insight. The first is also of two kinds: asking and answering. This is the first, the asking: As shown above, when the mind of focus continuously applies the mind stream inwardly, what is the name of that mental application until it has not attained complete pliancy? The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Maitreya: Son of good family, this is not the mental application of calm abiding, but it should be said to be the mental application that is in accordance with the aspiration and correspondence of calm abiding. This is the second, the correct answer of the Blessed One: It is the mental application that is in accordance with calm abiding, but it is not true calm abiding, because there is no complete pliancy. Blessed One, if the Bodhisattvas, until they have not attained complete pliancy of body and mind, how do they apply the well-thought-out dharmas inwardly as the image of the object of samadhi, then what should that mental application be called? And so on. Secondly, showing the mental application that corresponds to insight. This is also divided into two kinds: asking and answering. This is the first, the asking: As shown before, how to apply the well-thought-out dharmas inwardly as the image of the object of samadhi, with the aspiration of individual discernment, completely abandoning the characteristics of the mind, what is the name of that mental application until it has not attained complete pliancy? Son of good family, this is not the mental application of insight, but it should be said to be the mental application that is in accordance with the aspiration and correspondence of insight. This is the second, the correct answer of the Thus Gone One: It is the mental application that is in accordance with insight, but it is not true insight, because there is no complete pliancy. If this sutra text is combined with this, then it should be recognized that calm abiding and insight exist only in the state of samadhi. Others.
