and the mental application aimed at the complete accomplishment of the need. There are three types of complete meditation, the first is image meditation, because the image with conceptualization and the image without conceptualization are made into one. The second is the meditation on the limits of objects. The third is the meditation on the limits of the accomplishment of the need. In the commentary, it is said that the image with conceptualization is like this, the object of activity established by Samadhi, which is similar to the object of knowledge. The image without conceptualization is like this, the object of Samadhi, which is similar to the object of knowledge, the true object. The limit of objects is like this, the suchness of what exists and the existence as it is. The accomplishment of the need is like this, the transformation of the basis and the non-conceptual wisdom that depends on it. The arising and so on mentioned in the "Treatise on the Exposition of Three Natures of Non-Self," are not mentioned here because there are many errors. Among the above mentioned, what is mentioned in the "Treatise on Exposition" is in accordance with the words of the Sutra, but the "Compendium of Abhidharma" and so on are not, because in the "Compendium of Abhidharma" and so on, it is said that the first two belong to the object of Shamatha and Vipassana. The "Yogacarabhumi-sastra" is different from this Sutra, because it says that Dhyana and so on also belong to the accomplishment of the need. This Sutra speaks of four types, which have the same meaning as the "Treatise on Exposition," so they are not explained separately. Among these four types, which is the object of Shamatha, which is the object of Vipassana, and which is the object of both? The third is the true question. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Maitreya: "Son of lineage, one is the object of Shamatha, that is, the image without conceptualization. One is the object of Vipassana."

is the object, such as the image with conceptualization. The second is the object of focus of both realms, such as the completion of the object's boundary and purpose. This is the correct answer given by the Tathagata to the second. The four types of objects are different, as mentioned before. The second of the four is the correct object, because calm abiding is without conceptualization. The first of the four is the object to be thoroughly investigated, because insight is with conceptualization. The latter two of the four also belong to the realm of both calm abiding and insight, because calm abiding and insight focus on two types of objects. These four objects have different stages and grounds, and their respective explanations also differ. Some say that the first two are the objects of the preliminary stages of the ground, as the teachings say, correct practice focuses on the image of phenomena and meanings transformed from one's own nature, and is thoroughly sought by the insight of reasoning, hence it is called with conceptualization. Samadhi pacifies the thorough search, hence it is called without conceptualization. The third is the object of focus of calm abiding and insight of the ten grounds, because when one reaches the ten grounds, one can understand the boundary of the face realm. The fourth exists only in the Buddha ground, because after attaining the transformation of the basis, it is the object of focus of the complete accomplishment and abundance of the support. If so, why does the Compendium of Abhidharma say that the image without conceptualization is like the realm of non-conceptual and subsequent wisdom? The answer is: this treatise establishes a separate reasoning, therefore, the establishment of meaning is different from the Yogaśāstra and others. Some say that the first two also belong to the preliminary stages of the ground and the ten grounds, because both stages have the object of the image. Thus it is said, the others are as mentioned before.
