It is to show the distinction of the meaning of oneness. This is also divided into three aspects: Firstly, starting from the noble path, it distinguishes the meaning of the one vehicle. Secondly, from "Son of the lineage" onwards, it shows that the Shravakas, such as those who are destined for peace, will definitely not attain complete enlightenment. Thirdly, from "Shravakas transforming into Bodhi" onwards, it shows that the Shravakas who are transformed will definitely attain complete enlightenment. In summary, it is taught as follows: The first one, starting from the three kinds of knowledge, the Tathagata taught the one vehicle as a means. However, in the true sense, the three vehicles are complete and perfect, and each of them will attain the complete and ultimate Nirvana without residue. The noble Garland Sutra also teaches this meaning in the same way. Secondly, the two vehicles with definite lineages only attain the Nirvana without residue of the two vehicles, and there is definitely no meaning of attaining complete enlightenment later. Therefore, in the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice, it is said that for the Nirvana without residue attained by the two vehicles, there is only the Dharma Realm of such purity. Thirdly, the Shravakas of the definite lineage who can be transformed will definitely attain complete enlightenment. Therefore, in the Chapter on Expedients in the Lotus Sutra of the Good Dharma, it is taught that the lineage of the two vehicles will definitely attain complete enlightenment in the true sense. Combining this explanation, it is shown as three through the gate of expedients, but in the true sense, it is only one. Therefore, the Lotus Sutra of the Good Dharma says: "In all the Buddha lands in the ten directions, there is only the Dharma of the one vehicle. There is no two or three, except for the Buddha's expedient teachings." The noble Lotus Sutra of the Good Dharma and the Garland Sutra each speak of one meaning separately, but this sutra has two meanings, so the noble Samdhinirmocana Sutra is the most excellent one that shows the definitive meaning.

Here, firstly, it is divided into three aspects: the practitioners of the three vehicles each attain complete nirvana from their own vehicle; starting from the noble path, it is taught as one through skillful means; and in terms of the true meaning, there are differences among these three vehicles. This is the first. Thus, those of the lineage of the three vehicles each attain excellent complete nirvana through the path of non-self-nature and utter purity. That is also the meaning of the noble path, so it is called the path. That noble path itself is to be traversed by the noble ones, so it is called the place of accomplishment. By virtue of that path and place, one is liberated from afflictions and the suffering body with outflows, and thus attains the bliss of permanence and peace, therefore it is called the blissful nirvana. All the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas share this one utterly pure path in common, and the ultimate purity is also one; there is no second. Therefore, I think that the vehicle is only one, which is called the second, taught as one through skillful means. Among them, Shravaka refers to the teachings of the noble ones where sound is primary. Hearing the sound of the teachings from the teacher and virtuous friend, passing it on from one to another, and meditating on it, one permanently transcends the world. Because the conduct is small and the fruit is not great, it is called Shravaka. Pratyekabuddha refers to one who always delights in extreme solitude and peace, dislikes bustle, completes the practice, realizes it himself without the instruction of a teacher or virtuous friend, and permanently transcends the world. Because the conduct is moderate and the fruit is moderate, it is called Pratyekabuddha. Or, relying on the understanding of dependent origination, one realizes the noble fruit, so it is also called Pratyekabuddha. Bodhisattva refers to one who hopes for and seeks great Bodhi, or has compassion for sentient beings, or has unwavering vows and courage in seeking Bodhi, for a long time.

Therefore, having practiced and permanently transcended the world, because of great conduct and great fruit, it is called a Bodhisattva. As it is taught in the commentary on the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice. That is said as follows: Like this, these three vehicles are extremely pure, because they become one in this path of no self-nature, therefore this path itself is called the ultimate purity. This path is the only one, because there is absolutely no second. Because of realizing this one path, it is said that there is only one vehicle. Therefore, in the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it says: The one pure path is the only one, there is no second. Since no other ultimate purity will arise, therefore the ultimate purity is clearly referring to the one extremely pure path. Furthermore, 'one' has three aspects: First, because the path is one, it is called one. Second, because the fruit is one, it is called one. Third, because the meaning is one, it is called one. If these words of the sutra are combined, there will be two aspects: When it says 'extremely pure path,' it refers to the one and only path. When it says 'ultimate purity,' it refers to the one and only fruit. Because there is nothing else other than these two aspects of oneness, therefore, realizing this, it is said that there is only one vehicle. As it will be taught later, it is not like saying that there is only one vehicle because there is no different meaning, this is just a concluding statement. The vehicle is also the vehicle of the one and only Buddha. Therefore, in the Noble Garland Sutra, it says: Hearers and solitary Buddhas will also enter the Great Vehicle, the Great Vehicle is the vehicle of the Buddha. Furthermore, in the Sutra of the White Lotus of the True Dharma, it says: In the Buddha lands of the ten directions, there is only the Dharma of one vehicle, there is no two or three. Also, it is taught as one vehicle from the Dharmakaya, therefore, in the commentary on the Sutra of the White Lotus of the True Dharma, it says: Thus, the Tathagata
