Thus it is said. Even in the very extensive Treatise of the Hundred, it is explained in accordance with the teachings from the Yogacarabhumi. Therefore, in that very text, it says: Furthermore, if the meaning of emptiness and selflessness is spoken in front of those with weak wisdom, wrong views will increase. What is the reason for that? In the Verse Summary, it says: It easily generates self-grasping, The view of emptiness and selflessness is not like that. In that case, one is also addicted to evil destinies, Initially turning one's back on Nirvana. Thus it is said. In the commentary on this, it says: Its function is for those in the world who are weak in wisdom. Self-grasping is the view of the aggregates, and the view of 'mine' is also associated with self-grasping. Therefore, the word 'self-grasping' also includes that view. Although self-grasping does not conform to correct reasoning, it is easy to arise because the fault is light. Although the view of emptiness and selflessness conforms to correct reasoning, nevertheless, they do not understand it as it is, because that basis defames and destroys the dharmas, so the fault is heavy, therefore it does not arise. What is the weight of the faults of these two aspects? For example, first, self-grasping is only turning one's back on Nirvana. Secondly, those who wrongly grasp emptiness are also addicted to evil destinies. If those with weak wisdom wrongly grasp emptiness, they will even become weary of the roots of virtue, let alone how they treat sentient beings. In this way, they turn their backs on virtue and the world, cut off the roots of virtue, and because they harm sentient beings, they only turn their backs on the extremely cool Nirvana, and their own bodies will also fully endure the fire of the hells of sentient beings. But there is no such consequence in generating the view of self. What is the reason for that? Because they desire happiness and selflessness, and freedom from suffering, they will not commit sins, and they will also accumulate great merit, thereby being liberated from the evil destinies, and even attain the bodies of gods and humans.

It will not become empty, but only because of fearing nirvana and not attaining liberation. Therefore, it is said in the sutras: It is easy to generate self-view as large as Mount Sumeru, but it is not so to have wrong views on emptiness and generate arrogance. If so, wouldn't the emptiness of all dharmas and the meaning of selflessness be close to falling into a cliff, and therefore the noble ones do not teach it? In reality, it is not appropriate to teach in front of those with weak wisdom, but for those with special wisdom, following these meanings and practicing, they will gain great benefits, so it is necessary to teach them. Thirtieth fascicle. Although one generates the perception of dharma in my dharma, taking what is not the meaning as the meaning, from here onwards it shows the answer to the second refutation. From showing the answer to the two refutations themselves, it is divided into two: showing that over-believing in dharma also cannot accomplish the important matter, and showing the necessity that over-believing in dharma will have merit and wisdom. The first is also shown in two ways: truly showing the answer to the refutation itself, and showing the reason. This is the first. Thus, the Bodhisattva relies on my teachings, although he generates the perception of the teachings, but because he takes what is not the true meaning as the true meaning, even if he has faith in the teachings, it is

Furthermore, the statement that one will completely degenerate refers to the second point, that having great faith in the Dharma leads to possessing merit and wisdom, which is crucial. Non-Buddhists might argue: Since the Bodhisattva here possesses four things, and merely hearing the teachings leads to faith, why wouldn't the accumulation of merit and wisdom be perfected? To answer this objection, this passage was spoken. Although merit increases due to generating great joy in the Dharma, wisdom will completely degenerate due to clinging to unreal things. Because wisdom completely degenerates, immeasurable virtuous deeds will also degenerate, that is the conclusion. Will Bodhisattvas with lineage degenerate? If they do, what fault would there be? If they do degenerate, how should the content spoken in the Avatamsaka Sutra be understood and explained? In that sutra, it says that a Bodhisattva abiding in lineage, even if they kill all the sentient beings in Jambudvipa in a single moment, will not fall into the lower realms. Even if they kill the sentient beings from the four continents to the great three-thousandfold world, they will not fall into the lower realms. Why is that? Because that person has made offerings to countless Buddhas from immeasurable eons, and the roots of virtue of merit and wisdom have fully matured. Even if they commit great misdeeds, they can eliminate the obscurations due to the greatness of merit and will not fall into the lower realms. Furthermore, in the commentary on the Mahāyānasaṃgraha by Asanga, when explaining the first immeasurable eon, it says: "The mind is steadfast, with superior distinction." This means that even if one encounters bad friends and is dissuaded by methods, one will not abandon the mind of great Bodhi, and for the sake of the Dharma increasing more and more in this life and future lives, and not degenerating at all. Vasubandhu's commentary also states this. If one does not degenerate at all, then
