The phrase "thinking it's just my hoofprint" is the second, indicating the teacher of the doctrine, showing that he dwells in a state of self-deprecation. Thus, the Tathagatas cause the true Dharma teachings to enter according to the inclinations of whatever beings they wish to subdue. Therefore, the knowledge of the speaker is immeasurable and boundless. If our knowledge and vision are compared to the knowledge and vision of the Bhagavan, it is like comparing the water in a cow's hoofprint to the water of the great ocean. Thus, one thinks. In the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it says: "The knowledge of the Tathagatas is boundless, and what is to be known is like the ocean. My knowledge and vision are like a cow's hoofprint." One should respect the sutras, and also teach them to others, and also copy them, and after copying them, hold them, and also read them, and also correctly expound them, and also make offerings, and also receive them, and also recite them, and also make them one's daily practice. However, even so, one cannot generate union through the aspect of meditation, and so on, which is the third, showing the accumulation of the accumulations of merit and wisdom through the power of self-criticism. This is also shown in two ways: by showing that one cannot attain realization through the power of self-criticism, and also by showing that because one has not attained realization, one also relies on merit and wisdom. The first also has two aspects: explanation and conclusion. This is the first: that Bodhisattva, in this way, through the power of self-criticism, generates respect for the sutras and so on, and engages in the ten practices of Dharma, but still cannot generate the two practices of merit and wisdom through the aspect of meditation. Those practices of Dharma are not entirely the same as those taught in the various teachings. In the Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, five hundred seventy-three fascicles, only the names are listed, but there is no explanation. Therefore, in that very sutra, the Bhagavan said to Ananda: "This sutra also has ten practices of Dharma that can be upheld, namely copying, etc.

Making offerings, and giving to others, listening with respect, reading and holding, widely showing to others, Reciting, contemplating, and meditating, so it is said. The Noble Perfection of Wisdom in Four Hundred Twenty-Seven Sections, and the Noble Perfection of Wisdom Sutra Requested by Supreme Gods, the Sutra Indicating the Supreme Abode, and in the treatise Ornament of the Sutras, it is merely a listing of names. The treatises Stages of Yoga Practice, Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes, and the Detailed Explanation widely explain the meaning of these, although the order of before and after is not consistent, the meaning is not different. Therefore, in the treatise Detailed Explanation, it says, whether the Bodhisattva's collection of teachings is large or small, the practice of writing scriptures with respect and reverence, and the practice of offering with objects of offering, whether supreme or not supreme, the practice of writing scriptures oneself and giving them to others with compassion, the practice of listening respectfully with the thought of great reverence for those who, with respect, generate the mind and speak, explain, and proclaim with great sound, the practice of reading with complete pure faith and respect, the practice of reciting after having truly received from others, desiring to practice the Dharma, the practice of chanting with melodious voice in order to uphold the Dharma after learning to recite, the practice of explaining for the sake of others with compassion, elaborately or concisely as desired, the practice of thinking well in solitary places, the practice of contemplating after measuring and separately examining, and the practice of striving and entering in order to accomplish the meaning of what is sought, with calm abiding and insight as the main focus, as one has contemplated. In the treatise Ornament of the Sutras, it is slightly different from this, therefore, in that, writing scriptures, making offerings, and correctly giving and listening, reading, other
