It has been shown. In the explanation of the ten grounds, it is said that only in the beginning does one obtain the taste of virtuous Dharma, hence it is named the great joy of the mind. Some show that it is extremely joyful in two ways. It is like what is shown in this sutra and the commentary on the "Noble Ten Grounds Sutra," etc. There are also those who show it in three ways. As it is said in the "Noble Golden Light Sutra": "For example, only in the beginning does one obtain the supramundane mind, obtain what was not previously obtained, and obtain great deeds and abilities. As it is said, it is accomplished, therefore it is called extremely joyful." Among them, the great deed is to benefit oneself. In the treatise established only in consciousness, it is also said that only in the beginning does one obtain the nature of the noble one, and the two emptinesses are completely perfected and manifest, because it benefits joy and generates great joy. Regarding increasing faith, etc., and the nine recollections of the Buddha, etc., and the ten ways of completely transcending the realm of worldly conduct, etc., and the extensive differentiation of the ten joys, it should be understood as shown in the commentary on the "Noble Ten Grounds Sutra." Because all the faults of transgressing the precepts are completely abandoned, therefore the second is called the Immaculate Ground, which is a detailed explanation of the second Immaculate Ground. Similar content also appears in the "Sutra of Separate Liberation" and the "Sutra of Unraveling the Profound Meaning." In the "Sutra Requested by the Noble Human King," "separation" and "discrimination" appear, therefore it is said in the verses: "Separation and discrimination, the person who distinguishes well, in all the royal families, the body is completely manifested, the six realms of beings, are all in the empty realm." In the "Noble Golden Light Sutra," it is said: "Because all the faults of transgressing the precepts of minor offenses are completely purified, therefore it is called the Immaculate Ground." In the "Noble Ten Grounds Sutra," it is said: "Because the mind of stinginess, jealousy, and the defilement of transgressing the precepts is completely abandoned, therefore it is called the Immaculate Ground."

The noble being is called the Stainless Ground because they are free from afflictions such as the faults of immoral discipline that arise from a deluded mind, and because their discipline is completely pure and perfect. In the Sutra of the Great Vehicle Collection, it says that it is to cut off the stains of immoral discipline. In the commentary by Master Vasubandhu, it says: Because of the perfection of discipline by nature, it is thought of as the first ground, but it is not discipline, but in order to completely accomplish discipline, and to completely abandon the stains of immoral discipline. The commentary by Master Asanga also says that the meaning is in accordance with the commentary by Master Vasubandhu. In the Explanation, it says: Having completely transcended the grounds of the two vehicles, having obtained completely pure discipline, and having become the antidote to all stains of immoral discipline. In the Sutra of the Ten Abodes, it says that it is to be free from the stains of the paths of the ten virtues. In the Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness Only, it says: Having completely pure discipline and cutting off the stains that produce subtle faults of immoral discipline, it is called the Stainless Ground. Because those who have obtained that samadhi and the dharani of hearing make the place of limitless appearances of knowledge, therefore the third is called the Illuminating Ground, which is the explanation of the third Illuminating Ground. In this way, because the third ground obtains samadhi, it produces the appearance of wisdom born of meditation, and because it obtains the dharani of hearing, it produces the appearance of wisdom born of hearing and wisdom born of thought, therefore the third is called the Illuminating Ground. Or, relying on the ground, it makes the place of producing light, so it is called the Illuminating Ground. In the Sutra of Separate Liberation, it is called the Ground of Light. In the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it is called the Ground of Light. The reason why the term Illuminating Ground appears is because the thoughts of the translators are different. In the Sutra Requested by the Holy King of Men: Knowledge
