I cannot attain wisdom. The reason for this inability is due to three obscurations: the ignorance of extremely subtle attachment to all knowable things, and the ignorance of extremely subtle obstruction to all knowable things. The cycle accomplished by these two ignorances is called the maturation of bad rebirths. In order to abandon these three obscurations, one must also accomplish the cause of diligent effort. By diligently striving, having abandoned these three obscurations, one enters the eleventh Tathagata ground, obtaining the seven particularly excellent purities, as well as the purity of being free from birth, the complete Dharma body of purity, unobstructed and unimpeded vision, and one will also attain wisdom. Because of that limb, one becomes completely enlightened as a Buddha. Thus it is said. Some say that the eleven limbs gather the eleven grounds, and are also divided into three ways. Among them, the first limb is also divided into two, namely, showing that the practice in the previous stage is not yet complete, and showing that one has become completely perfect by oneself from the point of saying that one has truly transcended that ground. The second is that from those Bodhisattvas onwards, each of the nine limbs is also divided into three limbs, namely, showing that the limb of the previous stage has been completed, showing that the later stage has not been completed, and showing that the accomplishment of completion is being accomplished from the point of saying that it is for the sake of completing that limb. The third is that from those Bodhisattvas onwards, it is shown by the eleven limbs, which is also divided into four ways, namely, showing that the previous stage has been completed, and showing that the accomplishment of completion is being accomplished from the point of saying that it is for the sake of completing that limb, and from the point of saying that it is for the sake of completing that limb, repeating and showing that it has been completed. Thus it is said, although there are two explanations, the former explanation is correct. Son of the lineage, one should understand that these eleven limbs have gathered all the grounds without exception.

It should be understood that this is the second general conclusion. Chapter Fifty-Four. The Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara again said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, for what reason is the first bhumi called Joyful? For what reason is it called Buddha-bhumi between the Buddha-bhumis? From this point onwards, it shows the explanation of the meaning of the names of the second bhumi. This is also shown by asking and answering. This is the first question about the meaning of the names of the bhumis. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara: Son of good family, because great meaning is completely accomplished, and having obtained the unprecedented supramundane mind, great joy arises, therefore the first is called the Joyful Bhumi. And so on, this shows the Tathagata's correct answer. This is also divided into eleven aspects by the very teaching of the eleven bhumis. This is the first explanation of the Joyful. This explanation also has two meanings: the attainment of benefit for oneself and the attainment of the uncontaminated mind. Therefore, in the commentary on the Holy Ten Bhumis Sutra, it is said: The benefit of oneself and others is completely accomplished without equal, and because one obtains only the first position of the noble ones, it is called Joyful. There, the position of the noble ones is the uncontaminated wisdom. The explanation of the meaning of the names of the bhumis also differs because the explanations of the teachings are different, and some teachings show the name of the Joyful with only one meaning. As it is said in the Sutra Requested by the Holy King: The Bodhisattva understands well, and the four great heavenly kings simultaneously clearly see the meaning of the equality of the two truths. In the treatise Compendium of the Great Vehicle, it is said that this is because one initially obtains the qualities that can accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. The teachers Vasubandhu and Asanga also said the same in their commentaries. In the treatise Explanation, it is said that because one correctly obtains the unsurpassed realization and abides in the excellent joy, one abides in the Joyful Bhumi.
