Having abandoned, one enters the eighth bhumi, and will also obtain eight kinds of particularly excellent purities. With a mind free from effort, abiding in the signless, etc., one will also obtain. One will also thoroughly realize the meaning of the dharmadhatu, which is without increase or decrease. Therefore, the eighth bhumi is perfected, so it is said. Because one cannot obtain names, many characteristics, thoroughly distinguishing definitive terms, and the authority to teach the Dharma in all circumstances, therefore, due to that cause and condition, this limb is not perfected, so forth. Ninth, the ninth limb shows the collection of the ground of excellent intelligence. This also has two aspects: showing that the practice of the later limb is not perfected in the former limb, and showing that one accomplishes perfection through diligence in one's own side. This is the first. Among these, "name" refers to the object of accurately knowing each dharma. "Many characteristics" refers to the object of accurately knowing each meaning. "Thoroughly distinguishing definitive terms" refers to the object of accurately knowing each definitive term. "Obtaining authority to teach in all circumstances" refers to the object of accurately knowing each fearlessness. Therefore, in the Treatise on the Grounds of Yoga Practice, it is said: "The knowledge based on the names of dharmas is, for example, the unobstructed wisdom of a Bodhisattva. The knowledge based on the characteristics of dharmas is, for example, the unobstructed wisdom of a Bodhisattva regarding the meaning of enlightenment. The knowledge based on definitive terms is, for example, the unobstructed wisdom of a Bodhisattva regarding definitive terms. The knowledge based on thoroughly distinguishing the aspects of all dharmas is, for example, the unobstructed wisdom of a Bodhisattva's fearlessness," so it is said. Thus, it is said that the Bodhisattva of the eighth bhumi cannot, because he has not obtained the four distinct perfect knowledges of the ninth bhumi. Due to that cause and condition, the ninth limb is not perfected. In order to perfect this limb, by striving and meditating, that too will be obtained. Those Bodhisattvas, because

That I, the condition makes the limb complete, that is, the second self's limb is shown to be accomplished by diligence. Thus, the ninth ground is said to be obtained because of the four individual correct knowledges. The cause and condition also make that limb complete. The commentary on the Treatise Compendium of the Great Vehicle, translated in Lang's time, says that the eighth-ground Bodhisattva does not possess the excellent ability to obtain the characteristics, categories, and forms of the perfection of truly teaching the Dharma, so he cannot obtain the well-spoken Dharani. The reason why he cannot obtain it is because of the three obscurations, namely, teaching the immeasurable Dharma, the immeasurable words and letters of the Dharma, and the ignorance of obtaining freedom over wisdom, fearlessness, and Dharani from above, and the ignorance of generating wisdom after cutting off doubts with the four individual correct knowledges. The cycle accomplished by these two ignorances is called the maturation of bad destinies. In order to eliminate the three obscurations, the cause of truly striving is accomplished. By truly striving, after eliminating the three obscurations, one enters the ninth ground and obtains eight kinds of particularly excellent purity. One will also obtain the perfection of truly teaching the Dharma, and will also thoroughly realize the meaning of the Dharma realm's wisdom-free land, so for the sake of this limb, the ninth ground is also completed, as it is said. The commentary on the Treatise Compendium of the Great Vehicle, translated in Lang's time, says that if it is in accordance with the teachings, then the two ignorances cause obstacles to the four individual correct knowledges, that is, the first ignorance causes obstacles to the first, second, and third individual correct knowledges. The second ignorance causes obstacles to the fourth individual correct knowledge, as it is said, which is also based on the Treatise Yoga Teacher's Ground and this sutra itself. The teacher is truly self-established, not that the Indian version of the Commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle has such words and such reasons, there is none.
