This is the first. There are also two explanations for teaching these eleven branches: Some are based on the commentary on the Compendium of the Mahāyāna, which states that by relying on long-term transformation, each ground eliminates three obscurations and attains excellent qualities, and thus teaches these eleven grounds. There are also differences in this: The first ground eliminates three obscurations and attains ten qualities. The middle nine grounds each eliminate three obscurations and attain eight qualities. The last ground eliminates three obscurations and attains seven qualities, and is perfected by cause and condition. It will be understood later as it is said. Some say that each ground cultivates practices as cause and condition, just as the Joyful Ground cultivates the ten practices and faith-acceptance, acting as cause and condition. The so-called branch is this: the various aspects of the ten grounds, each different part, is called a branch. The teaching of the first ground is also divided into two: teaching that the forerunner of the ground cultivates the cause of the latter practice, and teaching that one cultivates in order to perfect one's own branch. This is the first. For example, "Bodhisattvas" refers to the yogic practitioner, that is, the two types of people who possess lineage and depend on lineage. Previously, starting from the ground of faith-practice, refers to the stage where practice resides, that is, relying on the previously mentioned path of accumulation and path of application, as well as the path of seeing, path of cultivation, and path of completion, from the first two stages, generating very deep faith, therefore it is called the ground of faith-practice. Therefore, the commentary on the Compendium of the Mahāyāna says: "For example, for the grounds, whatever is very deep faith, one can truly ascertain the number of dharmas of the ground as it is." Among them, relying on the ten practices, etc., refers to initiating practice based on the stage.

E! Based on the ground of practice with faith, the ten correct practices arise. The ten correct practices are as stated in the treatise "Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra": Furthermore, for the Great Vehicle, these ten Dharma practices of the Bodhisattvas will cause sentient beings to fully mature. What are the ten? They are as follows: causing the Dharma, such as the sutras endowed with the Great Vehicle, and those collected by the Bodhisattva Pitaka, to be written down; upholding them; offering to them in suchness; giving them to others; listening with reverence when the teacher expounds; reading them oneself; likewise, fully receiving the teachings; widely reciting the texts with melody; widely and correctly teaching them to others; going alone to a solitary place, contemplating and measuring; engaging in close examination and reflection; and following the aspect of meditation. Among these ten Dharma practices, which are the paths that generate great merit? Answer: All of them. Which is the path of application? Answer: One, the ninth. Which are the paths that purify obscurations? Answer: One, the tenth. As it is taught. These ten Dharma practices should be understood as explained earlier. "Because of extremely cultivating the forbearance of faith" refers to the translation of the "Commentary on the Summary of the Great Vehicle" by Laṅka's son, which states: Bodhisattvas, having previously relied on the ten Dharma practices on the ground of practice with faith, will manifest the accomplishment of aspiration and forbearance through cultivation. By manifesting the accomplishment of aspiration and forbearance, they will truly transcend the ground of practice with faith and enter the state of reality itself. Aspiration refers to the ten great aspirations. Forbearance refers to non-conceptual wisdom. The notebook of the teacher Yaṅdag Bdenpa states: On the first ground, the aspiration and forbearance of non-origination, and the ten great aspirations will be manifestly accomplished. If this explanation is combined with the "Superior Practice" in the translation of the "Commentary on the Summary of the Great Vehicle" by Laṅka's son, it explains this point.
