The original purity starts from the fourth bhumi and extends to the Buddha-bhumi. The reason for this is that the latter eight bhumis of superior wisdom are gathered together, because from the fourth bhumi to the higher and higher bhumis, the gates of wisdom become most excellent and abundant in various ways. For example, the fourth bhumi is to abide in the superior wisdom that is in accordance with and possesses the aspects of enlightenment. The fifth is to abide in the superior wisdom that possesses truth. The sixth is to abide in the superior wisdom that possesses dependent origination. The seventh is to abide in the signless with effort. The eighth is to abide in the signless without effort. The ninth is to abide in the four individual correct knowledges. The tenth is to abide in the supreme and complete perfection of the bodhisattvas. The eleventh is the abode of the Tathagatas, as extensively explained in the Treatise on the Grounds of Yoga Practice. If asked, why is it that only the fourth bhumi and above are manifested as possessing only wisdom? The answer is that in the Treatise on the Grounds of Yoga Practice, it says that abiding has four aspects, and the fourth abiding is the abiding of superior wisdom. It should be known that from that point onwards, the teaching begins with wisdom. It is said, "Sons of good family, you should understand that these four kinds of purity completely gather together the bhumis," which is the general conclusion of the second part. In this way, the four purities are qualities that exist substantially, while the bhumis are imputed. Therefore, this is the gathering together of the imputed by the substantially existent. If asked, how can the eleven limbs gather together the bhumis? From this point onwards is the second part, showing the gathering together of the eleven limbs. This is also shown in two ways: questioning and answering. This is the first questioning based on what has been said: the eleven limbs and the eleven bhumis, although their states are not different, their meanings are different. Therefore, in the Treatise on the Grounds of Yoga Practice, it is said that it is called "bhumi" because it gathers together and completely holds the meaning of nirvana. It is called "abode" because of the meaning of the place of enjoyment. In the Ornament of the Sutras Treatise, it is said that "abode" is due to faith in abiding.

It should be known, thus it is said. Among these, what is called a limb (ཡན་ལག་, yaṅ lag) means a place (གནས་, gnas). Thus, these eleven places are said to be limbs that are distinct in each direction. In the explanation of the ten places, for example, from the chapter on similes, the first limb of these is that the first ground is manifestly accomplished from the accumulation of all the dharmas that exist, which is called the limb of the first ground. This refers to the eleven places, which are the thirteen places excluding the first two. These eleven places are as stated in the Treatise on the Grounds of Yoga Practice: abiding in lineage, abiding in conduct through aspiration, abiding in great joy, abiding in higher morality, abiding in higher mind, abiding in higher wisdom endowed with aspects of enlightenment, abiding in higher wisdom endowed with truth, abiding in higher wisdom endowed with dependent arising, abiding in the signless with manifestation and effort, abiding in the signless without effort and spontaneously accomplished, abiding in individual correct knowledge, the supreme abiding of a Bodhisattva, and the abiding of a Tathagata, as it is said. As explained extensively in that very text. In this sutra, starting from the eleven places excluding the first two, it is taught by the name of limbs. Therefore, here it is shown that the limbs encompass the grounds. For example, Bodhisattvas, having previously relied on the ten practices on the ground of aspirational conduct, because of intensely cultivating aspirational patience, from here onwards, it shows the second, the Tathagata's correct answer. This also has two aspects: answering correctly as asked, and the general conclusion from "son of good family" onwards. In the correct answer, it is also divided into eleven parts by showing the eleven limbs themselves. This is the first limb showing the inclusion of the Ground of Great Joy. This is also divided into two aspects: showing that one has not entered the preliminary stage of the ground, and from "having truly transcended that ground" onwards, showing that one enters the first ground after truly transcending the preliminary stage of the ground.
