Now, I will explain the meaning of the words. Then, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, the Lord of Freedom, said to the Blessed One (Sanskrit: Bhagavan, Devanagari: भगवन्, Romanization: bhagavat, literal meaning: the Lord): Blessed One, as you, the Blessed One, have said, the ten Bodhisattva grounds are as follows: the Joyful Ground, the Stainless Ground, the Luminous Ground, the Radiant Ground, the Very Difficult to Subdue Ground, the Manifest Ground, the Far-Reaching Ground, the Immovable Ground, the Ground of Good Intelligence, and the Ground of the Cloud of Dharma. Furthermore, the eleventh ground, which the Buddha spoke of, how many kinds of purity do those grounds have, and how many branches do they encompass? From this point onwards is the third part, which correctly shows the meaning of the words. This chapter, if summarized briefly, can be divided into two aspects: the aspect of correctly showing through questions and answers, and the aspect of showing the practice in accordance with the teachings, starting from "Then, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, the Lord of Freedom." The first part can also be divided into two: explaining extensively with single sentences, and showing concisely with verses. Alternatively, this chapter can be divided into three: explaining extensively with single sentences, showing concisely with verses, and practicing correctly in accordance with the teachings. Although there are two different explanations, here, for the time being, I will show it by combining it with the previous explanation. Among them, explaining extensively with single sentences can be divided into four: extensively showing the grounds, and the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, the Lord of Freedom, also said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, how many kinds of training bases do Bodhisattvas have?" From this point onwards, extensively showing the Paramitas, and the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, the Lord of Freedom, also said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, do those grounds have the latent tendencies of afflictions?" From this point onwards, showing the arising of Paramitas based on the grounds, and the obstacles of unfavorable factors, and the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, the Lord of Freedom, also said to the Blessed One:

To. The Blessed One's statement, "What is the Hearer Vehicle?" and so forth, reveals the intention of the Thus-Gone One's teaching of the One Vehicle. Thus, it is shown in four ways because the perfections arise dependent on the grounds, and dependent on the perfections, obscurations are removed, and for the sake of completely removing obscurations, the fruit is attained by the One Vehicle, therefore it is shown in four ways. The extensive explanations of these are also divided into six: purity is divided into four. Starting from the eleven branches, the grounds are distinguished, the meaning of the names of the grounds is shown, starting from the twenty-two universally obscured things, the grounds are distinguished, the grounds are distinguished by eight special superiorities, the grounds are distinguished starting from special superior births, and the grounds are distinguished starting from three kinds of aspirations. The first is also shown by asking and answering. This is the first request of the Bodhisattva. These words of the sutra are also shown in three ways: the request, mentioning the answer, and the Blessed One's statement, "As it is said," and so forth, mentioning the teaching of the request itself, and the statement of the request itself, such as "Those grounds that were spoken of." Among these, the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, this is the name of the Bodhisattva who makes the request. Thus, this Bodhisattva possesses wisdom and compassion internally, and externally, the three actions of body and so forth, without effort, are self-controlled by his own power, therefore he is called Avalokiteśvara. Or, from knowledge and objects, he is named Avalokiteśvara. Therefore, in the Noble Buddha Avatamsaka Sutra, it is said, "The Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara abides in the door of the Dharma of great compassion." Furthermore, in the Noble Dharma White Lotus Sutra, it is said, "Avalokiteśvara, with the power of wisdom and abundance, completely protects from all the sufferings of the world."
