can be eliminated. If these characteristics are dependent on others, why is it taught that they should be eliminated? It is said that, as mentioned above, it is called elimination because it does not appear, but it is not called elimination because it completely eliminates the reason for dependent origination on others. Furthermore, it is called elimination because it is universally afflicted and because it abandons the freedom of others. Therefore, in the "Yoga Practice Ground," it is said that it is called elimination because it is able to abandon and separate. Because of abiding greatly in these practices in this way, one purifies the mind well from all obstacles, obscurations, and distractions from time to time, which is called the second purification of the mind. In this way, because of distinguishing suchness separately, one purifies the mind from the five kinds of obstacles, five kinds of obscurations, and five kinds of distractions mentioned above. From then on, because of realizing the seven suchnesses with the seven inner self-knowledges that each possesses, knowledge will arise, which is called the path of seeing. From here on, this is the stage of the second path of seeing. This also has two aspects: showing the path of seeing itself correctly, and showing the benefits of the path of seeing from "for the sake of attaining it" onwards. This is the first showing the path of seeing itself correctly, because it is called the path of seeing because it is only seeing the meaning at the beginning. Therefore, in the commentary on the "Compendium of the Great Vehicle" by Master Non-Entity, it is said: Because one sees the previously unseen and particularly excellent realm of phenomena, it is called the path of seeing. Furthermore, in the "Treatise on the Establishment of Only Consciousness," it is said: When this uninterrupted yoga wisdom arises, one will understand suchness, therefore it is called the stage of extreme realization. Because it is only seeing the meaning at the beginning, it is said to be the path of seeing. The path of seeing also has two aspects: first, the path of seeing of suchness itself is like this: the world

Because of the uninterrupted arising of the supreme Dharma, the instantaneous realization of the Suchness of emptiness of the person and phenomena, thereby directly seeing and instantaneously abandoning all afflictions to be abandoned, this is called the Path of Seeing of Suchness. Here, the seven kinds of individually self-cognizing Suchness are spoken of, which are explained starting from what is to be said, that is, looking at the edge of the meaning of the Suchness of the phenomena of samsara becoming manifest, from the individual arising of one Suchness, similarly looking at the edge of the meaning of the Suchness of the four truths becoming manifest individually, up to the transformation between the individual arising of the four truths, rather than saying that these seven earlier and later stages of the signless Path of Seeing are individually self-cognizing internally. Secondly, the Path of Seeing with signs refers to these three kinds of minds, namely, the consciousness that focuses solely on what is nominally designated as a sentient being, the consciousness that focuses solely on what is nominally designated as a phenomenon, and the consciousness that focuses on completely eliminating what is nominally designated as a sentient being and a phenomenon. And these sixteen minds, namely, the forbearance of knowing the Dharma of suffering, and so on. These two Paths of Seeing should also be understood as they appear in the Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness-Only, the Grounds of Yoga Practice, and the Treatises on Characteristics. Therefore, in order to attain it, entering the flawless reality of a Bodhisattva is called being born into the lineage of the Thus-Gone One, that is, having attained the first ground. Furthermore, saying "This ground also fully experiences benefits," etc., this is the second benefit of the Path of Seeing. This is also divided into two, namely, explaining the four benefits, and from "that" onwards explaining the benefits of the object of focus at the edge of things, this is the first. If this benefit is combined with what is stated in the Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness-Only, it is said that there are eight kinds of benefits of the Path of Seeing. Therefore, in that very treatise it is said that when a Bodhisattva attains the Path of Seeing, he will be born into the lineage of the Thus-Gone One, he will abide on the Joyful Ground, he will obtain the Dharma of...
