It is taught. There is no difference from other teachings. Extensive differentiation comes from the memoranda of the various schools and the treatise "Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes." Because of the vastness, it is not mentioned here. Regarding distraction of attention, there are also two explanations. Some say that from the five omnipresent ones, this is the nature of attention. That attention also possesses three kinds of wisdom. Or it is also considered that the nature of virtue and so on has three aspects. In the treatise "Compendium of Abhidharma Collections," it is said that the so-called distraction is the cause of distraction, and then attention is shown. Some say that from the near afflictions, the nature of distraction is that the cause of attention is mentioned, and then that distraction is shown. In the treatise "Compendium of Abhidharma Collections," it is said that the nature of near afflictions relies on distraction, so the mind is distracted externally. Because the mind is scattered outward to the five objects of desire, noise, and three other things, it is the nature of distraction arising from near afflictions. Regarding internal mental distraction, there are also two explanations. Some say that, as taught in the treatises "Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes," "Compendium of Abhidharma Collections," and "Commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle," it is the nature of three dharmas, namely sinking, excitement, and savoring. Or, as stated in the treatise "Explanation" and this sutra itself, it is the nature of four dharmas, namely: dullness, sleep, inferior desire, and near afflictions. Among them, inferiority is the power of dullness and sleep. Or it is said to be five dharmas, because inferiority itself is laziness. Some say that because the power of sinking and excitement, etc., makes the mind afflicted, it generates distraction, so it is explained by sinking, etc., which is relying on distraction. The so-called sign distraction refers to the signs obtained before meditation, the inner meditation.

Or, to focus on the characteristics of the object of samadhi in the mind; or, relying on the characteristics of external forms, to focus on the characteristics of the form of inner samadhi in the mind. Or, the term 'characteristic' refers to the characteristic that indicates the cause, which is the nature of focusing the mind. Some say that this is mentioning the cause of focusing the mind, thereby showing distraction, and it should be understood as before. Among them, the distraction of the abode of affliction means that the seeds of view and pride are called the abode of affliction. Because these act as causes, they cling to their own happiness and other feelings as self and what belongs to self, and they arise with arrogance, thinking 'I am.' Therefore, the manifest view of self and the arrogance of thinking 'I am' are the very nature. Or, distraction arises from the view of self and the arrogance of thinking 'I am,' so distraction itself is the very nature. Regarding the two explanations given above, if combined with the first explanation, how should the teachings in the Compendium of Abhidharma and the Collection of Various Abhidharma be understood and explained? For example, in the Compendium of Abhidharma, it is said: 'The nature of distraction also has six aspects.' And in the Collection of Various Abhidharma, it is said that the nature of near afflictions is distraction. Answer: Because the nature of distraction is shown by relying on the nature of distraction, there is no contradiction between them. If combined with the later explanation, how should the teachings in the Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes and other treatises be understood and explained? For example, in that very treatise, it is said that the self-nature of distraction is the five aggregates of consciousness. Answer: There are two types of distraction. The first is the distraction of near afflictions, which is the very nature of afflictions. The second is that the five consciousnesses of beings other than the Buddha are generally called distraction because they do not arise from equanimity. Moreover,

It is also the discrimination of self-nature. Therefore, the scriptures are established as mere consciousness. Furthermore, the distraction of the five consciousnesses indicates that it comes from others, not from the teachings of the Buddha. Therefore, the distraction of the five consciousnesses means that there is no contradiction between them. The meaning has been explained. Now, let's explain the meaning of the words. This is also explaining the five kinds of distractions separately, dividing them into five kinds. This is the first one. Among them, having the Mahayana attention means, in the scripture "Yogacarabhumi-sastra", how to cultivate the Mahayana attention? It is said that the Bodhisattva and abiding in the Dharma-nature of the Bodhisattva, not entering the reality without fault, or entering the reality without fault, observing the benefit of oneself and others, the detailed content should be understood as it is said in it. In addition, it says, how to cultivate the attention of the Hearer Vehicle? The answer is, in this way, he abides in the Dharma-nature of the Hearer, not entering the reality without fault, or entering the reality without fault, not observing the benefit of sentient beings, only observing the benefit of oneself, the broad content should be understood as it is said in it. In the "Commentary", it is also consistent with what is said in the "Yogacarabhumi-sastra". It says that the Bodhisattva who has not entered the reality without fault, abandoning the attention of having the Mahayana, if he has the attention of the lower two vehicles, it will be said like this. The attention is inconsistent in the teachings. In the "Samdhinirmocana Sutra", it says that abandoning the characteristics of having the Mahayana, the correct mindfulness, is the mindfulness of the two vehicles. In the "Commentary on the Compendium of the Mahayana" translated by Lion of Lanka, it says that the distraction of attention is like this, abandoning the Mahayana attention of the Bodhisattva with a low mind,
