These are the ones. The second is the mixed signs, which are the signs of distraction. Therefore, in the explanation of the treatises, there is the saying of the five objects of desire and the signs of distraction. The third is the external objects other than the first two. Distraction arises towards these three kinds of objects, and their nature is different. If combined with this explanation, this is an explanation made from the perspective of the master. Among them, the so-called inner distraction, as stated in the sutra: If one is overwhelmed by dullness and sleep, or tastes the flavor of absorption, or is afflicted by any of the near afflictions of absorption, then one should know that the mind is distracted within. Among them, the so-called inner mind refers to the inner mind of samadhi that is in accordance with samadhi. That is to say, there are four kinds of obscurations to inner samadhi: the power of actions such as dullness and sleep, and any of the near afflictions of absorption, because they obscure the inner mind of samadhi, so it is called inner absorption. There are also two explanations for this: Some say that the four, such as dullness, are themselves the nature of distraction. Some say that it is the nature of distraction caused by the afflicted mind generated by the power of dullness and so on. The meaning of these two explanations should also be understood as before. Among them, the so-called distraction of signs, as stated in the sutra: If one relies on external signs and remembers the signs of the object of inner samadhi, that is called the distraction of signs. Relying on samadhi, one remembers external signs. When entering samadhi, because one is separated from verbal expression, therefore, due to these causes and conditions, it will obstruct shamatha and vipassana, so it is called the distraction of signs. The explanation of the nature of the two explanations should also be understood as before. Profound Meaning Extensive

The Sutra of Olwa states that relying on external signs and focusing on the signs of the inner body's sphere of activity is called distraction of signs. Furthermore, the Treatise of Detailed Explanation states that relying on focusing on external signs and focusing on the signs of the inner sphere of activity. Thus, the sutras and treatises are also in accordance with the meaning stated in this sutra. As for the differences between similarities and dissimilarities in other teachings, they will be explained when the words of the sutra appear directly. Among them, the so-called "distraction of being in a bad state" is what the sutra says: If the inner mind, caused by the conditions, gives rise to the feeling that the body in a bad state creates the arrogance of thinking "I am," then that is called the distraction of being in a bad state. That is to say, holding the happiness of being in samadhi as one's own and creating the arrogance of thinking "I am" in the body in a bad state. Or, if the inner mind is caused by the conditions, the feeling that arises from it, with happiness and so on as the object of focus, the ego-clinging pride generated by the cause and condition of the seed of the bad state generates ego-clinging to the previous feelings, and generates the pride of thinking "I am," that is, the distraction that is in accordance with the ego-clinging pride itself is called being in a bad state. If combined with the previous explanation of the two meanings, then it means that relying on the body in a bad state, ego-clinging and so on arise, and the distraction generated by that cause and condition is called being in a bad state. If combined with the latter explanation, then it means that because it is in accordance with ego-clinging and so on, it is called being in a bad state. There are also two explanations for this: Some say that ego-clinging and pride and so on are called distraction of being in a bad state. Some say that it is the nature of the distraction that arises from it. The explanation of the nature of the two is also different. The teacher Yangdak Dhenpa also explained the nature of the five distractions in the notes of the commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle.
