It is said that it is because one does not have autonomy over the characteristics to be visualized. In conjunction with this explanation, it is called the bond of characteristics because it is the bond of characteristics. Moreover, the bond of bad rebirths is also of two kinds. The first is that which has the nature of being incompatible with contaminated dharmas, which is called the bond of bad rebirths, and with contaminated dharmas, it is neither one nor different. Because the self is not separate, it is said to be non-different. Because of the difference between what has been abandoned and what has not been abandoned, it is said to be non-one. The second is the seed of the two obscurations, which is generally called bad rebirth, and this is also called bad rebirth for the seed with two intentions. To distinguish extensively, it should be understood as explained in the chapter on the nature of the ultimate truth in the chapter on the nature of reality. Chapter Forty-Seven. World Honored One, what are the five kinds of obstacles that the World Honored One spoke of? Which of these are the obstacles to calm abiding? Which are the obstacles to insight? Which are the obstacles to both? From this point onwards is the fifteenth chapter, which explains the door of well-distinguishing the obstacles to calm abiding and what becomes the antidote. This is again divided into four types: the door of showing the five obstacles as obstacles to calm abiding and insight, the door of showing the five obscurations as obscurations to calm abiding and insight, the door of dividing into five types of distractions, and the door of showing what becomes the antidote to the eleven obscurations of calm abiding and insight, this is the first. The first is again divided into two types: asking and answering. This is the first question, from these five objects, which are the obstacles to calm abiding? Which are the obstacles to insight? Which are the obstacles to both? This is the concluding statement. Among them, the five obstacles are said in the Treatise on the Accomplishment of Consciousness Only to be the five bonds of the mind, because the defiled and sinful dharmas bind the mind and do not abandon it, so they are called the bonds of the mind, that is, attachment to one's own body, attachment to the five external desires, and mixing with householders.

Laziness, lack of faith in the words of the noble ones, and contentment with a small amount of virtuous Dharma, it is said. In the treatise *Abhidharma-samuccaya*, it is said that laziness is of three kinds. Therefore, it says in that very text that laziness is of three kinds: laziness of desire, laziness of hatred and ignorance. Because of dwelling in these three, there is attachment to the body and possessions, and dwelling in association with an immature mind, and being content with a small amount of virtue, due to these influences, virtuous Dharmas are not practiced, therefore it is called laziness. In the treatise *Abhidharma-samuccaya*, it says that an immature mind is what is said in this very sutra as not obtaining the desired teachings of the noble ones. Furthermore, in the *Abhidharma-samuccaya*, starting from five kinds of laziness, the meaning of laziness is explained. Therefore, it says in that very treatise, moreover, attachment to the body and so forth is taught by relying on the five kinds of mental laziness. What are the five? They are: attachment to the body, attachment to desires, delighting in association, following the teachings of others, lacking instruction, and being content with a small amount of virtuous Dharmas, because it becomes mental laziness, it is called mental laziness. The difference between the treatises *Abhidharma-samuccaya* and *Abhidharma-samuccaya* is because there, three kinds of actions are taught, while here it is pacified. In the *Yogacarabhumi-sastra*, only the names are listed, there is no detailed explanation. Therefore, here, the request is made starting from these five. Son of good family, attachment to body and possessions is the laziness of *samatha*. Not obtaining the desired teachings of the noble ones is the laziness of *vipassana*, and so forth, which shows that the second question has been correctly answered by the Tathagata. Thus, attachment to the body and attachment to possessions, these two kinds hinder *samatha*, and because the desired teachings of the noble ones are not obtained, therefore the intention of the teachings cannot be fully distinguished, therefore
