It completely suppresses and eliminates the two graspings, that is, through the four roots of virtue of the heat stage, the peak stage, the forbearance stage, and the supreme mundane dharma, relying on the four kinds of pervasive seeking and the four kinds of knowing as they are, thereby establishing the initial and final stages. Among them, the four kinds of pervasive seeking are name, meaning, nature, and difference. The dependence on others exists only as imputation, and the completely imputed is the non-existent nature. The four kinds of knowing as they are, are neither different from consciousness, nor are they consciousness itself, hence they are called knowing as they are. Relying on the samadhi of obtaining appearance, generating all pervasive seeking, from seeing the absence of grasping, the stage of the heat stage is established. Thus, in this stage, initially only the four dharmas such as the grasped name are regarded as transformations of one's own mind, which are only imputed, but in reality, what is seen is the absence of an object of focus. Relying on the samadhi of increasing appearance, generating the supreme pervasive seeking, from seeing the absence of grasping, the stage of the peak stage is established. Thus, in this stage, repeatedly the four dharmas such as the grasped name are regarded as transformations of one's own mind, which are only imputed, but in reality, what is seen is the absence of an object of focus. Relying on the conforming samadhi, generating all knowing as it is, one also grasps the absence of grasping as true, and inclines and desires to be patient with the absence of grasping. One thinks: if the object is not truly existent, then how can the consciousness separated from the grasper exist outside the grasped object? Because the grasper and the grasped are established in dependence on each other. Relying on the uninterrupted samadhi, generating the supreme knowing as it is, from seeing the emptiness of the two graspings, the supreme mundane dharma is established. Thus, the great forbearance of the previous forbearance stage only saw the emptiness of the grasped, but here

When entering into yoga, since one does not observe the nature of names, etc., and the characteristics of their locations, one attains the sameness of taste, where the object and consciousness are one, in order to completely abandon the characteristics of grasping. Chapter Forty-Five. "Bhagavan, what is the characteristic of correctly understanding the meaning of Suchness individually, and does that eliminate the characteristic of Suchness as well?" This is the third examination. Thus, does the Suchness that was previously shown, by being kept in mind, also eliminate the objectified Suchness? This is the concluding remark. "Son of good family, in the individual correct understanding of Suchness, there is neither characteristic nor object of focus, so what will be eliminated?" and so on, is the fourth, the Tathagata's explanation. This also has two aspects: the correct explanation and the repeated explanation. This is the first. There are also two explanations of this sutra passage. Some say that this sutra passage was spoken in relation to the yoga before the ground, and was spoken as a response to the challenges of outsiders. Thus, when meditating on Suchness, there are no characteristics at all, and because there are no characteristics, there is also no object of focus, so what will be eliminated? Some say that this sutra passage was spoken in relation to those who abide on the ground and below, and was spoken as a response to the challenges of outsiders. Thus, when entering into the yoga of Suchness, the characteristics of the grasper and the grasped are not observed at all. Therefore, in the treatise established as only consciousness, from the verses of the stage of complete understanding, it is said: "When, with regard to objects of focus, consciousness does not observe, at that time, one abides in only consciousness, because of being separated from the characteristics of the two graspers." This is what is taught. In the commentary on this, it says: "When a Bodhisattva does not observe the objects to be focused on even at once with non-conceptual wisdom, then one does not take the various characteristics of elaboration." As explained extensively in that very text. "Son of good family, when I correctly understand the meaning of Suchness individually, the dharma and the meaning of
