This is the chapter on asking how to remove signs. "How can one completely remove them?" This means asking for the method of removing signs, that is, with what kind of yoga and what kind of yoga ritual. In the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, it says, "With what mind does one conceptualize what sign of what dharma?" This is a mistake by the translators. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Maitreya, "Son of good family, by attending to suchness..." and so on, this is the Tathāgata's second answer. There are two explanations for this answer: Some say that this passage of the sūtra is the gate to meditating on yoga before the ground, so it is the answer to the questions asked above. It itself shows the answers to the three questions asked above, so it can be divided into three parts. This is the answer to the first question, meaning that among all the attendings, Bodhisattvas mainly attend to suchness. In the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, it says, "The mind that meditates on suchness." The "attendings" refer to the forty attendings taught in the *Yogācārabhūmi*. "Attending to suchness" refers to the "attending to reality" among the ten attendings. The phrase "able to remove the signs of dharma and the signs of meaning" is the answer to the second question. Thus, there are only two kinds of signs that need to be removed: one is the signs of the images of things, such as the expressing name and the ten things to be expressed mentioned above; the other is the signs of manifest attachment to dharma and meaning. When entering the yoga of suchness, because these signs are not seen, they can be removed. "When the self-nature of the name is not found in the name, then the sign of that place is also not very visible, so it can be removed." The following is the answer to the third question, which is to show the ritual of practicing yoga. This is also shown in two ways: starting from the name...

Explanation of the differentiation of the yoga of the ground and synonyms, etc. This is the first. Thus, when Bodhisattvas separately contemplate names, since they see that names and the nature of names, etc., are merely imputed transformations of their own minds, they do not observe the manifestations of attachment to reality. When contemplating in this way, it is not that they see only names and nothing to focus on, but they also do not contemplate that names, etc., are the nature of the place, the manifestation of consciousness. Another explanation is that when the name of manifestation attachment is seen as without focus, one does not contemplate the place of the names, etc., that are completely conceptualized, or the other-dependent and names, etc. That is to say, when one enters the contemplation of suchness and eliminates manifestation attachment, since other-dependent and names, etc., do not appear, it is called the emptiness of elimination, and it is not called elimination because one contemplates that one's own nature is nothing at all. This will be explained in this way. Therefore, the teacher Asanga says in the commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle that when non-conceptual wisdom manifests, all objects of the senses do not appear. Furthermore, it is said in the explanation of the treatise that when the completely conceptualized is completely eliminated by the yoga of suchness, the appearance of the other-dependent will not be liberated, so it is without focus.

This explains the meaning of the three. This is the first explanation of the three types of repetition, namely words and letters, and the explanation of the ten meanings. Just as when the self-nature of the name is not found in the name, the characteristics of its place are not seen correctly, similarly, each of the words, letters, and ten meanings does not have its own self-nature, and the characteristics of their place are not seen correctly, which should be understood as before, this is the concluding statement. Similarly, in the space between the realms, if the self-nature of the realm is not found, then the characteristics of its place are not seen correctly, and thus it is eliminated, which is the second explanation of the five types of repetition, etc. For example, the explanation of the five meanings, the four meanings, and the three meanings, from the meaning of words and the meaning of meanings, up to the five realms, or between the meaning of words, the meaning of meanings, and the meaning of realms, each of them has two meanings, namely, the self-nature is not found, and the characteristics of their place are not seen correctly, which should be understood as before, this is the concluding statement. Those doors of yoga are also established only by the treatise of consciousness-only, as stated in the scriptures. Therefore, the meaning of what is established by the treatise of consciousness-only should be explained. From that treatise, for the time being, starting from the four comprehensive searches and the four knowing as they are, it separately shows the discrimination of those names and meanings. For example, in the state of warming and the state of the peak, based on the four comprehensive searches, it separately understands that the self-nature and differences of the name and meaning of what is grasped are non-existent. Based on the four knowing as they are, it separately understands that the consciousness of the name and meaning of what is grasped are non-existent. Therefore, in the verse it says: Whatever is placed in front, thinking that it is only consciousness, because there is an object, it does not abide in consciousness-only. Thus it is said. In the commentary of this, it says that in order to enter the path of seeing, abiding in the self-nature of consciousness-only, and practicing yoga again,
