It is like it says in the scriptures, in order to abandon the attachment to the appearance of self-nature, it is investigated whether it truly exists. In the *Abhidharmasamuccaya*, it says, "Everything truly exists," which is said because all dharmas are inseparable from Suchness. Just as it appears in the extensive explanation when explaining the two truths, it should be understood. The phrase "for the sake of qualities and for the sake of faults" is the second, showing the door of qualities and faults. For example, the four immeasurables and the one hundred and forty unshared qualities of the Buddha are called qualities. The five inexpiable sins, the ten non-virtuous actions, the four heavy offenses, and afflictions are called faults. Therefore, it is taught in the sutra below that "faults are all the completely defiled dharmas, and qualities are all the purified dharmas." In the *Madhyāntavibhāga*, it is also taught that "Nirvana is called quality, and samsara is called fault." The phrase "for the sake of conditions and for the sake of time" is the third, the door of thoroughly distinguishing the four conditions, and the fourth, the door of thoroughly distinguishing the three times. Among these, the four conditions are as stated in the *Yogācārabhūmi*: "There are four conditions: the causal condition, which is like the seed; the immediately preceding condition, which is like the consciousness that immediately precedes another consciousness; the objective condition, which is like the object of any mental factors; and the dominant condition, which is like any other place besides the seed, such as the eye and its associated dharmas relying on eye consciousness, and the remaining consciousnesses are similar to that. Furthermore, whatever nature of virtue and non-virtue grasps desirable and undesirable results, and whatever is similar to that, is the dominant condition." As it is taught in this way, it should be understood as it appears from the extensive display of characteristics. Among these, the three times are the treatise

As it is said in the Yogācārabhūmi: How are the three times established? Answer: Because the dharmas of the seeds are not different from them, they are established according to the Dharma. Moreover, because of the power of whether the fruit has been given or not. The characteristic of the cessation of the fruit of all dharmas is the past. The characteristic of having a cause but not yet arisen is the future. The characteristic of having arisen but not yet ceased is the present. This is how it is taught. Furthermore, in the Yogācārabhūmi, it is said that the stream of seeds that has already produced fruit is called the past realm. The stream of seeds that arises but has not yet produced fruit is called the future realm. Thus, the stream of seeds that has not yet produced fruit is called the present realm. It should be understood that this is the intention of that. Moreover, in that same text, it says that past actions exist because they have already produced fruit. Future actions exist because they fully grasp the cause. Why? Because present actions are well distinguished by three characteristics. First, because it is the nature of the past fruit. Second, because it is the nature of the future cause. Third, because it does not cease in the cause of its own nature. Thus it is said. The treatises Madhyāntavibhāga, Abhidharmasamuccaya, Abhidharmasamuccayavyākhyā, and the Vyakhyā also mostly explain in accordance with what is taught in the Yogācārabhūmi. Furthermore, in the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi, one should have faith in the true reasoning of dependent origination in the Mahāyāna. Thus, this true reasoning is extremely profound and devoid of ornate words. What is called cause and effect, etc., is merely imputation. If one examines the present dharma, it has the ability to mingle with the future, so it is established as the future fruit, and this is taught in relation to that cause. If one examines the present dharma, it has something that is consistent with the previous characteristic, so it is established as the previous cause, and this is taught in relation to the present fruit.
