There is no distinction in the path. There is also no distinction in the vehicle. For example, on the king's highway, there are elephants marching and walking, there are horses marching and walking, and there are donkeys marching and walking. They proceed along that path in order. Entering the same city is the same, as it is said. There are many logical points in this teaching and so on. Although the One Vehicle is taught, due to different views, it is taught in various ways in the scriptures of the noble ones. If combined with the explanation of the treatises, it can be seen from them that the intention of teaching the One Vehicle is due to six reasons. Therefore, why did the Thus-Gone One teach the One Vehicle? It is said, because of six reasons: starting from the fact that the characteristics of all phenomena are not different; starting from the aspect of non-discrimination; because sentient beings and phenomena are the same in being without self; because liberation is the same; like this, although there are afflictions of conceptualization about things and untruth in different practices, there is no inconsistency in the nature of the antidote and the object of focus; because they manifest and abide very well; because existence is ultimate, it is explained. The Ornament of the Sutras and so on, show that the One Vehicle is taught for ten reasons. From that treatise, first, it shows that the Thus-Gone One taught the One Vehicle in the Sutras for eight reasons. After that, it shows the intention of the Thus-Gone Ones teaching the One Vehicle with two meanings of complete holding. Therefore, it can be seen from that treatise: Like this, from these sutras, the Thus-Gone Ones taught the One Vehicle with these eight intentions, but it is not that these three vehicles do not exist. If so, with what intention is the One Vehicle taught? It is said in the verse: The Hearers are upright, in order to gather Bodhisattvas, for these two it is uncertain, the Buddhas teach the One Vehicle.

It is said. Broadly speaking, it is as explained therein. The teacher Asanga also composed the treatise "Compendium of Mahayana," in which he also relied on the verses of the treatise "Ornament of the Sutras" to explain ten meanings, and the teachers Vasubandhu and Asvabhava each made commentaries to explain those ten meanings. Therefore, in the treatise "Compendium of Mahayana" composed by the teacher Asanga, it says: If the Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are not in common with the Buddhas, and the Dharmakaya of the Buddhas is endowed with such perfect qualities, then with what intention is the One Vehicle taught? There are two verses for this: Some are for guiding, and others are for completely embracing. The perfect Buddhas teach the One Vehicle to the uncertain ones. Because Dharma and Anatma are the same in liberation, because the lineages are different, because of attaining two intentions, because of emanation, the ultimate teaches the One Vehicle. It is said. In the commentary composed by the teacher Vasubandhu, it says: Here, two verses distinguish the intention of the Buddhas in teaching the One Vehicle: Some are for guiding. This is to say, guiding the uncertain lineage of Sravakas and others, making them inclined towards the Mahayana. Thinking about how those Sravakas and others of uncertain lineage will be completely liberated from suffering by the power of the Mahayana. Others are for completely embracing. This is to say, making the Bodhisattvas of uncertain lineage abide in the Mahayana. Thinking about how the Bodhisattvas of uncertain lineage will not abandon the Mahayana and will not be completely liberated from suffering by the Sravaka Vehicle. For that meaning, the Tathagatas teach the One Vehicle. The words uncertain and so on, and due to the power of meaning, Dharma and Anatma, and between liberation, are widely taught. The two meanings mentioned above are the commentary on the "Compendium of Mahayana" written by Asvabhava.
