Or the realm of the world, or reaching a hundred in number, or reaching a thousand in number, or reaching a hundred thousand in number, this is the term. That is countless, that is countless times a hundred, that is countless times a thousand, that is countless times a hundred thousand, this is the third, showing the measure of countlessness. In the Great Commentary (Mahāvibhāṣā) and the Treasury of Knowledge (Abhidharmakośa), among the sixty names of numbers, the fifty-second is said to be countless. In the commentary on the Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it is said: 'That which cannot be unknown, or is the ultimate number of counting, therefore, that which cannot be known again is called countless.' The details are as shown therein. In the chapter on numbers in the Holy Flower Garland Sutra (Gaṇḍavyūha Sūtra), among the one hundred and twenty numbers shown, the one hundred and third is said to be countless. For example, one countless three-thousand great-thousand world realm, or reaching a hundred in number, or reaching a thousand in number, or reaching a hundred thousand in number, this is the term. The three-thousand great-thousand world realm, the measure of countless millions of fine dust particles, immeasurable in the ten directions, are the countless container world realms. This is the fifth, showing the measure of the world realms of the ten directions. This first is the three-thousand world realm. The second is the countless millions of three-thousand world realms. The third is the immeasurable three-thousand world realms of the ten directions, the measure of fine dust particles. Therefore, in the Commentary, it says: 'The three-thousand great-thousand world realm, and the countless millions of world realms, and the immeasurable countless world realms of the ten directions, the measure of fine dust particles.' Another explanation is that the countless millions of one direction, and the three-thousand great-thousand world realm of the measure of fine dust particles, and the direction of

The immeasurable and countless three thousand great thousand worlds in the ten directions, and the immeasurable and countless three thousand great thousand worlds in the ten directions, these are also the meaning of separate establishment, as it is said. The meaning of enjoyment is, for example, I take hold in order to make sentient beings enjoy, and the things that are shown as resources, this is called the sixth explanation of the meaning of enjoyment. Thus, the ten resources that are taken hold of in order to make sentient beings enjoy are completely shown, what are the ten resources in the 'Yogacarabhumi-sastra'? Namely: food and drink, riding, clothing and ornaments, play, singing and dancing, the sound of musical instruments, incense, flower garlands, perfume, utensils, light, and the enjoyment of men and women, as it is said. Another explanation is that taking hold is called the seven things to be taken hold of. Resources are called the ten resources themselves. Among them, the seven things to be taken hold of are as it is said in the 'Yogacarabhumi-sastra', what are the seven things to be taken hold of? Namely: oneself and the things of parents, the things of sons and wives, servants and maids, employees and things that live on wages, friends, ministers, relatives and the things of marriage relatives, fields, houses and the things of goods trading, engaging in the things of decline and the edge of business, and the things of wealth and so on, as it is said. The ten resources should be understood as shown above. The meaning of reversal is, for example, for the meaning of clinging and so on, clinging to impermanence, therefore, becoming perception reversal, mind reversal, view reversal, and clinging to suffering as happiness, clinging to impurity as purity, clinging to non-self as self, therefore, becoming perception reversal, mind reversal, view reversal, this is called the seventh meaning of reversal.

Discrimination of Inverted Views. For example, the meanings of clinging and so on mentioned above, which become the seven inversions, are called the meanings of inversions. These seven inversions are explained in the seventeen treatises, as stated. Therefore, the inversions completely grasped from that treatise are as follows: the seven inversions: the inversion of perception, the inversion of views, the inversion of mind, the inversion of thinking of impermanence as permanence, the inversion of thinking of suffering as happiness, the inversion of thinking of impurity as purity, and the inversion of thinking of selflessness as self. The inversion of perception is as follows: the perception of thinking of impermanence as permanence, thinking of suffering as happiness, thinking of impurity as purity, and thinking of selflessness as self. The inversion of views is as follows: the same endurance, desire, establishment, and manifest clinging to the perception of the same. The inversion of mind is as follows: the same affliction by attachment and so on to the manifest clinging itself. Therefore, the afflictions should be understood as threefold in brief: there is also the root of inversion from afflictions, there is also the nature of inversion from afflictions, and there is also the co-operative cause of inversion from afflictions. Therefore, the root of inversion is as follows: ignorance. The nature of inversion is as follows: the view of the aggregates, and one aspect of the view of extremes, the view of holding views as supreme, the view of holding morality and asceticism as supreme, and desire. The co-operative cause of inversion is as follows: wrong view, and one aspect of the view of extremes, anger and pride, and doubt. Therefore, the view of the aggregates is the inversion of thinking of selflessness as self. One aspect of the view of extremes is the inversion of thinking of impermanence as permanence. The view of holding views as supreme is the inversion of thinking of impurity as purity.
