"What should be accomplished" onwards is the third, showing the door of distinguishing the stages of realization and attainment. This also has two aspects: asking and answering. This is the first request, expressed only by the Sutra itself. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Maitreya: Son of good family, the first ground, the Joyful, is called realization. The third ground, the Luminous, is called attainment. And so on, showing the second, the Tathagata's true answer. This also has two aspects: Truly answering the previous question, and encouraging beginners to learn. This is the first true answer to the previous question, that is, even though the first ground itself directly realizes suchness, it is not yet completely purified, so it is not called attainment. Or, all the grounds up to and including the first ground are called realization. Because the third ground attains the ground of Samadhi, it relies on Samadhi to generate Vipassana, and also attains complete purification. Therefore, the higher grounds are called attainment. Although in the true sense, all the words "also" have two meanings, they are spoken in this way in order to make the characteristics more obvious. The Samdhinirmocana Sutra also says: The first ground is called realization, the third ground is called attainment. Son of good family, even a beginner Bodhisattva should follow and remember it. Although it should not be praised now, it should not be abandoned with laziness. This is the second encouragement for beginners to learn, that is, the Bodhisattvas in front of the grounds have neither become realization nor attainment, so they should not be praised now, but they should follow and remember it. Therefore, they must practice diligently, so do not be lazy, this is the concluding remark. Volume 41. The Bodhisattva Maitreya again asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, among these Samatha and Vipassana, how is the Samadhi with investigation and analysis?

Then how should it be done? How can it be called a samadhi with only investigation and no examination? How can it be called a samadhi with neither examination nor investigation? The following ten questions are the gateway to revealing the various differences such as examination and investigation. This also has two aspects: asking and answering. This is the first asking. The intention of asking is, what kind of characteristics do the two types of calm abiding and special insight mentioned above have among the three differences such as examination? How can it be called a samadhi with both examination and investigation? Similarly, how can it be called a samadhi with neither examination nor investigation? It will be explained in this way. The reason why all three are called samadhi is to distinguish them from the state of distraction, so it is said. Regarding the existence of these differences, the Sarvastivada school believes that they each have different natures and exist in mutual agreement. The Sautrantika school believes that although the forms of nature are the same, they do not arise simultaneously. Therefore, in the chapter on examination and investigation in the Cheng Weishi Lun, it says, "Some people say that examination and investigation exist in the same mind," but this is not the case. Therefore, if combined with this, the view expounded in the Cheng Weishi Lun is that they neither arise simultaneously nor are they separate from the mind and have different entities. Here, if combined with the Mahayana teachings, both are the nature of mind and wisdom. They also do not exist in mutual agreement, because the coarse and fine are different. As it is said in the commentary on the Yogacarabhumi-sastra: "Examination is like this, namely, universal seeking. Investigation is like this, namely, individual observation." Or, the coarse state in which a bodhisattva or wisdom universally seeks an object is called examination. Individually regarding the object in these two ways
