That which focuses on the general outline of the twelve scriptures, and from their scope, how much has been grasped, completely mastering and contemplating the teachings between the twelve scriptures, merging them into one and directing the mind, this is what is taught as the great mixture. The statement that it does not focus on individual parts is a distinction from the small mixture. Like the small mixture, it does not focus on each individual part, that is its definition. By means of the immeasurable Dharma taught by the Tathagata, and the immeasurable words and letters of the Dharma, constantly examining and understanding through wisdom, focusing on merging into one and directing the mind, not focusing on the gaps of complete mastery and contemplation, whatever that is, it should be known that this is the Shamatha and Vipassana that focuses on the immeasurable Dharma of mixture. This is the third explanation of focusing on the immeasurable Dharma of mixture. This sutra passage should also be divided into three parts to explain, namely explanation, distinction, and conclusion. From the explanation part, by means of focusing on the immeasurable Dharma taught by the Tathagata, etc., this shows focusing on the three immeasurables. Whatever merges into one and directs the mind, that is the definition of immeasurable mixture. Among them, the three immeasurables, the first is focusing on the immeasurable Dharma taught by the Tathagata, and there are also three explanations for this. Some say that the so-called teaching of immeasurable Dharma is because the immeasurable Dharma is taught with immeasurable sounds, so it is called teaching of immeasurable Dharma. The so-called Tathagata is to extremely show the speaker. Some say that the so-called immeasurable is because the Tathagatas of the ten directions and three times teach in great numbers, so it is called immeasurable. Some say that the so-called immeasurable refers to two kinds, namely the Buddha and the Dharma. The second is the immeasurable words of the Dharma, etc., which refers to the names, sentences, and letters that arise depending on sound.

The so-called examination and comprehension with wisdom from higher to higher refers to the consciousness of the object of focus. Since the consciousness of a Bodhisattva, which is well distinguished by the teachings of the object of focus, is not unique, it is said to be from higher to higher. Therefore, the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning states, "higher and higher." In the Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness-Only, it is said that because one explains the other, it is said to be "from higher to higher." Why are these three immeasurables said to be combined into one, etc.? This is to show that there are three meanings in the object of focus, the Dharma. First, by mentioning the one who proclaims, it shows the attachment to the teachings. Second, it shows the truthfulness of the nature of names, sentences, and letters. Third, relying on the consciousness that focuses, it shows the attachment to the object of focus. Therefore, although three types are mentioned, these three immeasurables are not the essence of the teachings. There are differences between these three because their respective explanations differ. In the notes on the Holy Golden Light Sutra by the teacher, the True Reality, it is said that the so-called "teaching of the Dharma" is the object of correctly understanding each word. The so-called "immeasurable words and letters of the Dharma" is the object of correctly understanding each Dharma. The so-called "immeasurable wisdom" is the essence of correctly understanding the meaning and eloquence respectively, because after comprehending the meaning, skillful means are explained.

Now it says "without." If combined with that sutra, then the third immeasurable is to have two distinct correct knowledges. What is called "higher and higher wisdom" is the distinct correct knowledge of words. What is called "fearlessness" is the distinct correct knowledge of fearlessness. This sutra is in accordance with the meaning taught by the teacher Dharmapala. To summarize the meaning, it is taught that the teachings of the noble ones, which are the objects of the four distinct correct knowledges, are all gathered together and contemplated. What is the difference between the three mixtures? It is said: There are two explanations for this. Some say that the small mixture is to focus on the many words of each section from the twelve parts of the scriptures. The great mixture is to focus on only one aspect of the twelve parts of the scriptures. The immeasurable mixture is to focus on the general teachings of the twelve parts of the scriptures. Some say that the small mixture is explained as before. The great mixture is to focus on the twelve parts of the scriptures of only one Buddha. The immeasurable mixture is to focus on the general teachings of the twelve parts of the scriptures of all Buddhas. What kind of characteristics do these three objects of focus contemplate? It is said: There are three explanations for this. Some say that these three mixtures only contemplate the teachings. As taught before, contemplating the sutra section, etc., gathering them together and contemplating them, therefore having the three abilities of focus, etc., and completely expressing all virtuous dharmas. Some say that these three mixtures only contemplate Suchness. Just as it arises from the five causes taught later, starting from the yoga of Suchness, destroying all the evil realms, etc. Some say that since it has two meanings, it is said to contemplate the teachings and to contemplate Suchness, but in reality there is no contradiction. Fortieth fascicle. The Bodhisattva Maitreya again asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan,
