Mat. This also has two aspects: one is showing the way to contemplate that the teachings have three special abilities, and the other is showing the way to contemplate that the noble teachings will express virtuous dharmas. The first also has two aspects: one is showing the contemplation of three abilities starting from the aspect of suchness, and the other is showing the contemplation of three abilities starting from bodhi and so on. This is the first: Thus, Bodhisattvas contemplate in this way: the twelve parts of scripture have three abilities, namely, tending towards suchness, flowing into suchness, and arriving at suchness. The noble teachings are because they follow correct reasoning, flow into correct reasoning, and enter into correct reasoning. Another explanation is that by virtue of the noble scriptures, three kinds of wisdom will be attained: the wisdom of hearing causes one to tend towards; the wisdom of thinking causes one to flow into; the wisdom of meditation causes one to arrive at. Furthermore, by virtue of the noble scriptures, three kinds of union will be attained: tending towards is the union with suchness from a long time ago; flowing into is the near union; arriving at is the final union. These three words are also taught from the Yoga Practice Ground Treatise, starting from the door of mindfulness and from dhyana and samadhi. Tending towards bodhi, tending towards nirvana, transformation tending towards, flowing into those, arriving at those, etc., this is the second, namely, showing the contemplation of three abilities starting from bodhi and so on. These three characteristics enter into three places: bodhi, nirvana, and transformation. Looking at these twelve parts of scripture, all have the three special abilities of tending towards, flowing into, and arriving at, and should be understood as before. What is the difference between nirvana and transformation? It is said: Nirvana is suchness free from the two obscurations.

It is taught based on meaning, and the transformation of the basis includes both enlightenment and nirvana. Therefore, it is said in the treatises of the Vijnanavada school that because evil destinies are abandoned, the transformation of the basis is attained. The teacher Dharmapala also said that the two transformations of the basis of enlightenment and nirvana will be obtained. Furthermore, enlightenment is the fruit of conditioned phenomena, nirvana is the fruit of unconditioned phenomena, and the transformation of the basis is the fruit of the Dharmakaya. All these dharmas are the manifestation of immeasurable and countless virtuous dharmas. Thinking it is so, this is the second, showing that the noble teachings will manifest virtuous dharmas and contemplate. In the true sense, although the noble teachings completely show the perfection of self-nature, because they want to fully show the contemplation and practice of calm abiding and insight, it is said that one aspect is good. Thinking like this and practicing calm abiding and insight, this is the third, the conclusion of the practice of calm abiding and insight. This is calm abiding and insight that focuses on mixed dharmas, this is the second, the conclusion of the explanation of focusing on mixed dharmas, it is just the expression of the sutra itself. Bodhisattva Maitreya again asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, you said calm abiding and insight that focuses on mixed small part dharmas, and calm abiding and insight that focuses on mixed large part dharmas, and calm abiding and insight that focuses on mixed immeasurable dharmas, from here onwards is the third, showing the door of difference focusing on mixed dharmas. This is also divided into three types: the door showing the difference of focusing on mixed small part dharmas, etc., and the door fully showing that focusing on mixed dharmas has causes and conditions, and the door distinguishing the stages of realization and attainment, this is the first. The first is also divided into two types: asking and

Thus it was spoken. There are also two ways of asking: one is the place of asking, as stated in the scriptures; the other is asking based on the teachings. This is the first. How should we call the shamatha and vipassana that focus on the dharma of small mixture? How should we call the shamatha and vipassana that focus on the dharma of great mixture? How should we call the shamatha and vipassana that focus on the dharma of immeasurable mixture? This is the second type of asking based on the teachings. There are three types of asking, which are expressed by the sutra itself. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Maitreya: "Son of good family, whoever focuses individually on each of the sections from the Sutra section to the section on definitive statements, and combines them into one and contemplates them, that should be known as the shamatha and vipassana that focus on the dharma of small mixture." And so on, this shows the second way in which the Tathagata truthfully answered. This also divides the object of mixture into three types by the teachings themselves. This is the first explanation of focusing on the dharma of small mixture. In this way, focusing separately on each of the twelve categories of scriptures, for example, gathering many Sutra sections into one, up to gathering many sections on definitive statements into one, therefore it is called small mixture. Whoever takes as an object all the teachings such as the Sutras, and contemplates them by combining them into one, and does not focus on them separately, that should be known as the shamatha and vipassana that focus on the dharma of great mixture. This is the second explanation of focusing on the dharma of great mixture. This sutra passage is also divided into three parts: explanation, detailed division, and conclusion. In the explanation, "whoever" refers to who completely focuses on the teachings of the twelve categories of scriptures. "Taking hold" and so on show the extent of the object, that is, what is called focusing on great mixture.
