It is not called "unmixed" because each category has its own many forms and is therefore unmixed. Some say that the so-called "Sutra Pitaka and other dharmas" refers to the fact that the nature of each of the twelve divisions of scripture is revealed as unmixed. If we combine this explanation, then whether it is mixed or unmixed, the focus on each category should be called the focus on the unmixed. If we combine this explanation, then among the latter three types of mixing, the first type of small-scale mixing will also be included in this. Some say that the so-called "focusing on the separately unmixed" means that each category also has many different forms. It is called "unmixed" because these twelve divisions of scripture each have different meanings, not because the names of the twelve divisions are different. The so-called "Sutra Pitaka and other dharmas" refers to the fact that the unmixed field of each of the twelve divisions of scripture is revealed. If we combine this explanation, then when there are two kinds of meanings, it is called focusing on the initial unmixed, that is, different categories and different forms. If we combine this explanation, then in this focus on the unmixed, small-scale mixing is not included. This is because, the Sutra Pitaka and other dharmas focus on the separately unmixed, therefore, what was previously said to be received by the wisdom of hearing, and the words and meanings of the Dharma contemplated by the wisdom of thinking, are practiced in shamatha and vipassana, which is called focusing on the unmixed. Whichever Bodhisattva focuses on all the dharmas of the Sutra Pitaka and others, unifying them, concentrating them, summarizing them, forming a whole, and thinking in this way, etc., this shows the second focus on the mixed. This also has two forms, namely, separate explanation and summary. Separate explanation is also divided into three types, namely, revealing the attention that summarizes the unmixed into the mixed, revealing the characteristics of attention, and the summary of practicing shamatha and vipassana. This is the first. For this sutra passage, there are also two explanations. Some say that focusing on all the dharmas of the Sutra Pitaka and others.

The part about the ground. Words like "unification" and so on generally unify the twelve branches of scripture into one. Therefore, it is said "all," because only when possessing twelve aspects can it be called "all." Some say that the word "all" has three meanings: First, each branch of scripture has many aspects, so it is called "all." Second, the twelve branches of scripture are collected and unified, so it is called "all." Third, what is not taught by the twelve branches of scripture is also included, so it is called "all." Therefore, the sutra below explains this mixture by dividing it into three aspects, such as "mixture becoming smaller" and so on. Although there are two explanations, the latter is the correct one, because it agrees with the words and the meaning. Among them, "unification" and words like "collection," "gathering," and "aggregate" have the same meaning, but different names. That is to say, focusing on all the dharmas of the Sutra Pitaka and so on, and considering unification as true wisdom, thereby practicing shamatha and vipassana, is called shamatha and vipassana that focus on the mixed dharma. Therefore, in the Compendium of the Mahayana, it says: "Why enter into mere consciousness? Because focusing on the mixed dharma can also be understood through transcendental shamatha and vipassana." The Explanation by Asanga says: "Focusing on the mixed dharma means focusing on the suchness that is distinguished by the mixed characteristic of all dharmas as the object. Because in the Mahayana teachings, suchness is the maker of the suchness of all dharmas, so when focusing on suchness, it itself contains the nature of all dharmas. Therefore, focusing on all dharmas is focusing on suchness." All these dharmas incline towards suchness, flow towards suchness, abide in suchness, and so on, which is the characteristic of the second mental activity.
