Buddhas do not manifest enlightenment, and emanation Tathagatas are not true speakers. If combined with the four bodies, there are five aspects. The first is that one demonstrates, and three do not teach. For example, the Dharmakaya is the object of individual wisdom of speech, and it is not its own basis, because it does not manifest enlightenment, nor is it another body, because it is not a true speaker. The second is that two teach, and two do not teach. For example, the Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya are, but the other two bodies are not, because they have no language and do not manifest enlightenment. The third is that three teach and one does not teach. Thus, the Dharmakaya of Suchness is devoid of the nature of language. The fourth is that all four teach. As stated in the "Lankavatara Sutra": "All three bodies teach the Dharma." It is like this because two types are divided from the Nirmanakaya. The fifth is that none of the four teach, because they have no language, do not manifest enlightenment, and are not true speakers. Although there are so many different aspects, the statement by teachers such as Nearing Light that the Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya teach the Dharma is the true meaning. Therefore, in the commentary on the "Holy Buddha Land Sutra," it says: "From the two Buddha lands of the Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya, which Buddha land does this completely pure land belong to? Which Buddha spoke this sutra?" Some say that the Nirmanakaya teaches the Dharma in the Nirmanakaya Buddha land. Some say that the Sambhogakaya teaches the Dharma. But in the true sense, when Shakyamuni Buddha spoke this sutra, the retinues below the stage of faith and practice saw the Nirmanakaya teaching the Dharma in this not completely pure Buddha land, while the many retinues abiding on the ground saw the Sambhogakaya in the Buddha land.

In order to fully and purely expound the Dharma, It is seen that even if the hearing is the same, the seeing is different from each other. The details are as stated in that very place. If that is the case, how should one understand and explain the expounding of the Dharma in two forms, such as in the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*? As it says in the four fascicles of the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*: "Therefore, for this reason, I say this: From the night I attained complete and perfect enlightenment to the night I will enter complete nirvāṇa, I have not spoken a single word, I do not expound, and I will not expound." And, in other sūtras, it is also said: "Whatever is expounded is expounded by the Buddha." And, in other *Ārya Prajñāpāramitā*, it says: "Beings each think that the Blessed One is expounding the Dharma for me alone, but the Tathāgata has not expounded or taught from the beginning." And, in other sūtras, it is also said that the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have not spoken a single word from beginning to end. If one asks this, it is because, in terms of conventional truth, the Buddha spoke. This is what is to be expressed. Relying on ultimate truth, it is said that he did not speak. Therefore, in the *Śataśāstra*, it is said that in terms of ultimate truth, because all the elaborations of discrimination have ceased, the Tathāgatas have no Dharma to speak of, nor is there any Dharma to be slightly grasped, but there is no fault in establishing it in accordance with conventional truth. Or, saying that he did not speak is also for three reasons. The first of these is that it is said that he did not speak because he considered that Suchness is free from various characteristics such as verbal expressions. Therefore, in the four fascicles of the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*, it is said, "Why is there no exposition?" The Buddha said, "It is spoken by the Buddha." The Blessed One said, "Mahāmati, I spoke those words considering two Dharmas. What are the two Dharmas? They are the Dharma that is realized by oneself and the Dharma that exists by its own nature." And, other sūtras
