Therefore, they are called gods. The treatise *Mahāvibhāṣā* says that they are called gods because their light is extremely bright. It is said that they are called gods because their own bodies emit light continuously day and night. The term "non-god" is explained in the treatise *Nyāyānusāriṇī* as follows: "Sura (सुर) is called a god, meaning one who has attained independence. A (अ) means 'not.' Therefore, it is shown that they are not gods and that they are gods who have lost their independence, so they are called non-gods." The *Mahāvibhāṣā* says, "Sura (सुर) is called a god, but they are not gods, so they are called non-gods." Furthermore, sura (सुर) means ugly, but they are not ugly, so they are called non-gods. Among them, humans are called humans because, as stated in the treatise *Abhidharma*, their minds are very secluded and peaceful. The treatise *Nyāyānusāriṇī* says that they are called humans because they think a lot. The treatise *Mahāvibhāṣā* says that they are called humans because they are capable of being very secluded and peaceful. It is said that among the five types of beings, there is no one like humans who can be so secluded and peaceful.
