That is why it is said. Although it is said that all Mahayana is without outflows, it is shown that there is no contradiction, because it is believed that the wisdom attained afterwards is without outflows. Furthermore, in the scriptures of the Yogacarabhumi, it is said that the first three of the six superknowledges are superknowledges, but not wisdom. The latter three are both superknowledges and wisdom. Like this, because it is the antidote to the obscuration of the three times. It is said in the commentary on the Prajnaparamita, "Remembrance of past lives, the divine eye, and the exhaustion of outflows are called the three wisdoms." If asked, what is the difference between superknowledge and wisdom? Knowing the objects of past lives is called superknowledge. Knowing the past causes and conditions and the actions that manifest and create is called the wisdom of knowledge. Here, knowing that one dies here and is born there is called the superknowledge of obtaining the divine eye. Knowing the manifestation and creation and the end of causes and conditions without losing them is called the wisdom of knowledge. Knowing the connection of afflictions, knowing birth and non-birth, is the superknowledge of the exhaustion of outflows. Knowing that after the exhaustion of outflows, one is no longer born, is called wisdom. Such three wisdoms are attained by great Arhats and Pratyekabuddhas. The so-called attainment of all who abide in bliss in this life refers to the tenth, which shows the merit of abiding in bliss in this life. Like this, because the Shravakas attain the actual samadhi of the four dhyanas, therefore, in this life, their body and mind abide in bliss, and it is called abiding in bliss in this life. This abiding in bliss is said in the Abhidharma Mahavibhasa Shastra of the Sarvastivada school: "Why did the Blessed One say that the fourth dhyana is abiding in bliss?" The answer is that because only dhyana has two kinds of bliss, it is called abiding in bliss: the bliss of feeling and the bliss of extreme pliancy. The first three dhyanas have both kinds of bliss, while the fourth dhyana, although it does not have the bliss of feeling, has great power and activity due to extreme pliancy.

It is more excellent than the previous two kinds of happiness. Although there is lightness in the access concentration and the formless realms, it is not called happiness because it is not extensive. Furthermore, when the actual meditation manifests, the great elements increase and expand, and a distinction arises in all parts of the body. Because there is no separation between the body and the (meditation), it is called dwelling in happiness. When the concentration of the access concentration, etc., manifests, the great elements increase and expand, and a distinction arises only in the mind. Because it is not lightness and there is no separation, it is not dwelling in happiness, so it is said. The extensive aspect should be understood as explained in nine ways in that very treatise. Here, if combined with the Mahayana scriptures, it is mostly in accordance with what is stated in the Great Commentary on the Abhidharma. Therefore, in the commentary on the Buddha-bhūmi-sūtra, it says: "What is called dwelling in happiness in the present life is because one has attained a meditation that will not completely degenerate." Furthermore, in the Treatise on Exposition, it says: "Only the meditations themselves are the nature of dwelling in happiness in the present life, because they possess the lightness of both body and mind. The formless concentrations are not, because they do not have the lightness of the body." Furthermore, in the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra, it says: "Those meditations are also called dwelling in happiness, because one fully experiences happiness in them. Why is that? Because, relying on the meditations, the body and mind experience the happiness of joy, the happiness of lightness, and the happiness of equanimity. Because the formless realms do not have such an experience, it is not said that one dwells in happiness there." This is explained in detail in that very treatise. Why is the happiness of future dharmas not mentioned? In the Abhidharma-kośa, it is not said that there is dwelling in future dharmas, because the happiness of future dharmas is not निश्चित (niścita, निश्चित, निश्चित, certain) existent, or it degenerates, or one is born into a higher realm, or one does not abide after nirvāṇa, so it is said.
