In the commentary of [ ], eleven wisdoms are taught. In the Sutra of the Great Collection of the Noble Ones, twelve wisdoms are spoken of. In the Yogācārabhūmi, it is said that there are sixteen wisdoms, but because of their abundance, they are not mentioned here. "Having the three vidyās" refers to the ninth quality of having the three vidyās. As it is said in the sutras: There are three kinds of vidyā, namely, the vidyā of knowing and directly experiencing the recollection of past lives, the vidyā of knowing and directly experiencing death and birth, and the vidyā of knowing and directly experiencing the exhaustion of defilements. These three vidyās are also distinguished in four ways, as the Sarvāstivādins say in the treatise of the Abhidharmakośa. The first is to show the nature, which is done by wisdom. That is, in order, the nature of the fifth of the six abhijñās, the recollection of past lives, the second, the divine eye, and the sixth, the exhaustion of defilements. The second is to show the necessity of establishing the three distinctions, that is, in order, for the sake of the antidotes to the three kinds of extreme delusion of the past, future, and present. The third is to distinguish between the real and the imputed, that is, the vidyā of the knowledge of the exhaustion of defilements is imputed to both the real and the imputed, in order to realize the absence of defilements. The other two are imputed, because they are entirely with defilements. Knowledge with defilements and without defilements are all called the exhaustion of defilements, because both arise from the body of the exhaustion of defilements. The real is called without defilements. The imputed is called with defilements, because superiority and inferiority are mutually dependent. This is the showing of the real and the imputed. The fourth is to distinguish between the learner and the non-learner, which belongs entirely to the non-learner, because the learners are accompanied by darkness. In the Mahāvibhāṣā, the necessity of establishing the three distinctions is shown to be slightly different from what is said in the Abhidharmakośa, therefore, from that very text, why are there three kinds of the six abhijñās

If asked, what is knowledge? The answer is that the direct perception of knowing the realm of magical powers is to enter into the places of craftsmanship. The direct perception of the divine ear is to completely grasp sounds. The direct perception of knowing the minds of others is to solely hold its own characteristics, and because it does not have special power, it is not established as knowledge. The latter three direct perceptions are established as knowledge because they possess special power. In this regard, the special power is like this: it is in accordance with completely renouncing samsara, and all of them bring forth special qualities, and all of them tend towards nirvana. Why do the latter three possess special power? Fourth, the direct perception of making manifest the knowledge of remembering previous lives is that seeing the objects of past lives will cause great weariness to arise. Fifth, the direct perception of making manifest the knowledge of death and birth is that seeing the objects of future lives will cause great weariness to arise. Sixth, the direct perception of making manifest the knowledge of the exhaustion of defilements is that having become weary in that way, one will develop great faith in nirvana. The extensive explanation is as it appears in that very text. Various Agamas, intermediate Agamas, correct treatises, and the Great Vibhasha extensively explain the nature of the three knowledges, but fearing prolixity, it is not explained here. Here, if combined with the Mahayana treatises, the commentaries on the Buddha-bhumi and the Yogacarabhumi also mostly explain in accordance with what is taught in the Abhidharma-kosa. Therefore, the commentaries on the Buddha-bhumi say that these three direct perceptions obtained by the non-learners through sharp faculties are said to have three knowledges in order to completely eliminate the delusion of the three extremes of defiled, undefiled, and neither. Some say that this knowledge is the nature of wisdom, and because wisdom dispels darkness, it is called knowledge. Some say that it is the nature of the root of virtue without ignorance, because it is able to avert ignorance.
