The explanations of the differences in stating the existence of distinctions also vary. Some say that the first refers to the category of Dharma, and it teaches the extremely pure wisdom, because it encompasses all conditioned and unconditioned knowledge without exception. The second refers to perfect completion, and it teaches the extremely pure wisdom, because the abandonment of obscurations is extremely abundant and also completely perfect. The third refers to the nature and the specific characteristics, and it teaches the extremely pure wisdom, understanding the nature itself is called "how many there are," and understanding the specific characteristics is called "as it is." Some say that the first refers to the category of Dharma, and it teaches the extremely pure wisdom, which is the same as the previous explanation. The second refers to the two knowledges, and it teaches the extremely pure wisdom, that is, knowing that sentient beings are empty is called the completely pure and abundant wisdom, and knowing that phenomena are empty is called the completely perfect wisdom. The third refers to the knowledge of ultimate truth and conventional truth, and it teaches the extremely pure wisdom, focusing on the object of conventional truth is called "how many there are," and focusing on the object of ultimate truth is called "as it is." Therefore, the sutra below says, "How many there are are the five aggregates of grasping, etc., and as it is are the seven suchnesses, etc." The explanation of the two terms will be explained when the words appear directly. By "not possessing two conducts," etc., the second distinction of qualities is taught. The detailed explanation of these qualities also has two ways: one is to show the quantity, the number of examples, and the new and old, similar and dissimilar examples; the other is to combine the treatises and explain the words of the sutra. Among them, the so-called similarity and dissimilarity refers to the fact that in some other different versions of the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha*, there are only twenty sutra sentences. The so-called sutra sentences reaching the end means that without being complete and without distinction, only the names of the twenty-one qualities are mentioned.

Moreover, in its commentary, it is said that at the beginning, it is due to the power of twenty types of reasoning, in order to manifestly accomplish the Tathagata's mind being extremely pure. At the end, it is said that the first word is a summary arrangement, and the other twenty-one words accomplish it. That old translation has two errors: the phrase "ultimate end" at the end of the latter part of the sutra is incomplete; and the commentary says there are twenty types of reasoning, which is inconsistent with the twenty-one words mentioned below. Those scholars made mistakes in translating and explaining. The scholar True Vision said that there are twenty words to show the distinction of qualities, and if the concluding word is also included, it becomes twenty-one. Secondly, interpreting the words of the sutras in conjunction with the treatises, this explanation of the distinction of qualities differs from the treatises. In the treatise "Summary of the Great Vehicle" composed by Master Asanga, first, the twenty-one words spoken in the sutras are listed, and then, in conjunction with reasoning, the names of the qualities are established according to the order of the sutra's words. There is no explanation of these. The names of these qualities are stated in the "Summary of the Great Vehicle" as follows: the quality of entering without any obscuration to the knowable; the quality of making the Suchness of existence and non-existence attain the ultimate purity; the quality of the Buddha's activities being spontaneously accomplished and continuously abiding; the quality of abiding in the Dharmakaya; intention; and the quality of not possessing different activities; the quality of cultivating the antidote to all obscurations; the quality of subduing all non-Buddhists; the quality of not being robbed by worldly dharmas even though born in the world; the quality of correctly establishing the Dharma; the quality of prophecy; the quality of completely enjoying in all world realms; the quality of showing the Nirmanakaya; the quality of cutting off doubts and the quality of entering with various behaviors; and the quality of completely knowing the arising of future dharmas.
