O! After consuming the flesh of many Nagas, due to the power of the poison, flames blaze intensely on the body. The Naga kings Nanda and Upananda, fearing that the jewel mountains would be burned, cause a great rain to fall, with drops as thick as chariot wheel spokes, to extinguish the fire. Its flesh melts away, leaving only the heart, about the size of a human arm, which turns into blue Vaidūrya. If a Chakravartin obtains it, it becomes a precious jewel; if Indra obtains it, it becomes a crest jewel, it is said. That which is called "Kimnara" is a celestial singer, skilled in song, who serves the gods together with the Gandharvas. Whenever the gods need them, they go in turn. There is also what is called "Samsaya-deva" (Doubtful God), whose body is that of an animal, with a strange shape, a handsome face, and a single horn on its head. When people see it, they become doubtful, not knowing whether it is a human, a Yaksha, or an animal. Therefore, it is called "Samsaya-deva." Mahodara (Great Belly Crawler) is a great transformation. It has no feet, and is called Mahodara because it crawls on its belly. Another explanation is that it is also called a transformation Naga. This is the worldly god who governs wells and land, and people offer it meat and wine. Inside the belly are Nagas and transformations, difficult to recognize, and somewhat like Nagas, so it is mentioned separately. That which is called "Kimnara" is transformed into human form to listen to the Dharma, so it is called "Kimnara." In the Sutra Requested by Shariputra, it is said that all the eight classes of gods and demons are Kimnaras. Among them, "human" refers to all humans. "Non-human" refers to all non-humans. Or, "human and non-human" is a term of doubt, meaning "Is this a human? Or is it a non-human?" In the Sutra Requested by Shariputra, the causes of the eight classes are discussed. Therefore, Shariputra asked the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, by what causes are the eight classes of gods and demons born in evil realms, yet are always able to hear the true Dharma? O Bhagavan!"

It was prophesied: By two kinds of karma, that is, born from bad karma. Thus, by good karma, one will experience great happiness. All these eight classes are called human and non-human. Among them, gods are those who in their previous lives made offerings to the Three Jewels, parents, and noble beings with chariots and the like. However, due to stinginess, deceit, and jealousy, they took this body, like the sons of gods, such as Universal Light and Supreme Purity. Nagas are those who in their previous lives accumulated the causes of virtues and gave extensive charity, but did not abide in correct mindfulness, and were short-tempered and fond of anger, so they took this body, like the Naga king Wish-fulfilling Jewel and so on. Yakshas are those who in their previous lives gave great charity well, or first harmed and then benefited, thus taking this body according to the difference between high and low. Gandharvas are those who in their previous lives had a little hatred, constantly gave well, adorned themselves with blue lotuses, and took this body because of playing various kinds of music. Asuras are those who are proud and unable to follow virtuous friends to practice pure merit, follow deceitful people, like non-virtuous merit, rely on false teachers, have also given charity well, and like to watch others fight, so they took this body. Garudas are those who in their previous lives gave great charity, were proud and despised others, so they took this body. Kinnaras are those who in their previous lives caused others to generate the mind of enlightenment well, but that mind did not become true, and they followed false teachings, so they took this body. Mahoragas are those who also gave charity and accumulated the holy Dharma, but liked anger, so they took this body. Thus it was said. In the commentary on the Buddha-field, this pure land is the realm of practice that has completely transcended the three realms, gods, etc.

If asked, how can feet be long? Because all those such as gods are included in the three realms. Answer: Since it is held by the completely pure consciousness, in order to adorn the completely pure field, the appearance is not contradictory. Or, in order to fully ripen the beings to be subdued, such a manifestation of transformation is shown. Just as when a king issues a decree, in order to subdue, the wheel-turning king's thousand wheels and what he has done are manifested and shown. This is according to what is explained in detail in the notes of the Buddhakshetra Sutra. Furthermore, in the commentary on the Buddhakshetra Sutra, it says: Or, the Bodhisattvas transform into gods and nagas and so on in immeasurable lands, abide in the pure land and make offerings to the Buddhas, or transform their own bodies into the bodies of gods and nagas and so on, and therefore make long feet for the Tathagatas, so there is no contradiction. In one different aspect of the commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle, it says: Although there are no such things as gods and nagas in the pure land, since they do not cling to emptiness, the Tathagata himself manifests various forms of guidance. This sutra called "Enjoying the Joy and Bliss of the Vast Dharma" shows the complete realization of the tenth bhumi. The commentary made by the teacher Near Light says: There, abiding by enjoying the food of the joy and bliss of the Mahayana Dharma is the meaning of the Sugata. If it is said: How can there be food when the realm of activity has completely transcended the three realms? It is not appropriate to call the undefiled Dharma food, because food nourishes the beings of the three existences, and this cuts off the three existences, so it is unreasonable to call it food. Answer: Although it is undefiled, it is also called food because it is the cause of manifestation. Just as in your doctrine, those born in the formless realm and so on, entering into the undefiled samadhi is also called food. It is also not said that past food is food, because there is no past. This is also four meanings.
