The places where the sixteen assemblies made offerings with the four kinds of requisites are called the realm of conduct because they are the places frequented by the Tathagata. Abiding in the place of support is as follows: abiding in all the monasteries of the Sangha, as well as in places such as Vulture Peak Mountain and the Kalanda Bamboo Grove. Abiding by means of conduct is as follows: abiding by means of the conduct of going, standing, sitting, and sleeping. Abiding without abandoning life is as follows: abiding manifestly and not passing into nirvana, and abiding in the Dharma body of the five aspects, such as morality and samadhi. Abiding in Brahma is as follows: the four immeasurables, because the Tathagata abides in the mind of great compassion, it is called the abode of Brahma. Abiding in the gods is as follows: the four dhyanas, the Tathagata, who has become the most excellent of the four dhyanas, abides in them. Abiding in the noble ones is as follows: liberation. Liberation is also of four kinds. The first is abiding in the samadhi without mind, temporarily stopping suffering. The second is abiding in the samadhi of emptiness, stopping views. The third is abiding in the samadhi without aspiration, stopping desire. The fourth is abiding in the samadhi without characteristics, stopping the four kinds of slander. The Bhagavan abides in the samadhi without characteristics, the afflictions of the mind are completely exhausted. Abiding in the Buddha is as follows: because the Buddha abides in the Dharma that is without birth, without cessation, and without abiding, it is called the abode of the Buddha. If we distinguish it in relation to the three bodies, the first three abidings are the Nirmanakaya, the middle three abidings are the Sambhogakaya, and the last two abidings are the Dharmakaya. Among them, the first two bodies are the abidings, and the latter Dharmakaya is what is to be abided in. Most of all the Sutras say that among these eight abidings, the first two abide in the realm of conduct, subduing the householders. Abiding in the place of support, subduing the renunciates, thus it is said.
