Like that. The fifth is to completely protect the Mahayana, just as it is said in the Sutra of Golden Light and other scriptures that the kings of gods protect the entire country. The teacher of the Tripitaka said that this sutra is included in the Bodhisattva Pitaka among the two Pitakas. Among the three Pitakas, it is included in the Sutra Pitaka. Or it is included in the Abhidhamma Pitaka, because it can distinguish the nature of all dharmas and increase wisdom. The twelve divisions of scripture are included in the section that explains the established definitions. Or it can be regarded as included in the Sutra section. Thus it is said. Among them, for what purpose is it spoken, and what is called "teaching" is also of two types: the general teaching for what purpose all scriptures are spoken, and the teaching for what purpose this sutra itself is spoken. Although there are immeasurable purposes for which all scriptures are spoken, in summary, there are only four types. Among them, the first type is also of two types: those who are not of the nature of Nirvana and those who are of the nature of Nirvana. Therefore, in the Yogacarabhumi-sastra, it is said that those who are completely of the nature of Nirvana are those who are fully endowed with seeds. Those who are completely not of the nature of Nirvana are those who do not have the seeds of the three Bodhisattvas. Thus it is said. The second type, some say, is of three types, namely: definitely correct, definitely wrong, and the uncertain aggregates. In the commentary on the Buddha-bhumi Sutra, it is said that the aggregates that are definitely correct are: those who are of the nature of Nirvana. The aggregates that are definitely wrong are: those who are not of the nature of Nirvana. Thus it is said. The third type, some say, is of four types, just as it is said in the Sutra of Good Precepts: there are four types of beings to be tamed, namely: those of the Sravaka lineage will attain the Sravaka path, those of the Pratyekabuddha lineage will attain the Pratyekabuddha path, those of the Buddha lineage will attain the Buddha path, and gods and humans and

said, one will obtain the happiness of gods and humans. The treatise "Comprehensive Summary" also states the same. Third, to fully ripen those individuals, in short, there are four ways. Those of the Hearer lineage should be fully ripened by the Hearer Vehicle; those of the Solitary Buddha lineage should be fully ripened by the Solitary Buddha Vehicle; those of the Buddha lineage should be fully ripened by the Unsurpassed Vehicle; and those without lineage should be fully ripened by the path of good rebirth. Thus, the Tathagatas and Bodhisattvas fully ripen these four types of individuals with these four dharmas. The Yogacara-bhumi also states the same as what is stated in the treatise "Comprehensive Summary." Those of uncertain lineage are not separate from the lineages of the three vehicles, because they are included in the Bodhisattva lineage, so they are not explained separately. Fourth, some say there are five types. That is, if one adds the uncertain lineage to the previous four, there will be five types of lineages. Furthermore, the Noble Lankavatara Sutra states that there are five types of lineages: the Hearer Vehicle lineage, the Solitary Buddha Vehicle lineage, the Bodhisattva Vehicle lineage, the Uncertain Vehicle lineage, and the lineage-less. If it is said that those who do not have all three vehicle seeds are called lineage-less, then how should the lineage-less mentioned in the Noble Lankavatara Sutra be interpreted and explained? Therefore, in that sutra divided into four volumes, Mahamati Bodhisattva asked the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, who is it that never enters Nirvana? The Bhagavan replied: Mahamati, there are two types of great desire, namely Bodhisattvas and great desire itself. Among them, the great desire of Bodhisattvas is that they never enter Nirvana because they know that all dharmas are Nirvana from the beginning, but not the great desire that abandons all roots of virtue. Mahamati, the great desire that abandons all roots of virtue is also Tathagata.
