Just as the aggregates are described, so too should the ayatanas, dependent origination, and food be described. This is called the second mention of the three repetitions. Just as it is said that the aggregates have five characteristics, so too should the twelve ayatanas, dependent origination, and food be understood. This is the concluding statement. For example, the self-nature of the ayatanas is that because it can see form, it is called the eye. Because it is what is seen by the eye, it is called form, up to because it can know dharma, it is called dharma. The self-nature of dependent origination is, as stated in the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice, ignorance is defined as the nature of obscuring dharmas that arise from the mind in accordance with consciousness. Up to gradually decaying and disintegrating all at once, it is called old age and death. The self-nature of food is that it is cut by the mouth and swallowed, so it is called coarse food. Up to being apprehended by consciousness, it is called consciousness-food. The two characteristics of arising and ceasing, as well as complete abandonment and complete knowledge, should be understood as before. Why is it that in the chapter on the characteristics of ultimate truth, the aggregates and so forth are distinguished by six characteristics, and the four truths are also completely explained, while in this chapter only suffering and origin are mentioned, and cessation and the path are not taught? It is said that the previous chapter was intended to distinguish the differences in realization, so the four truths were completely explained, while this chapter is intended to show the difference between the two teachings of inherent existence and non-inherent existence, so here it is not briefly explained, because by obtaining the aggregates, cessation is directly realized. The self-nature of the truths, complete knowledge, complete abandonment, realization, and cultivation are taught in many ways, which is called the second mention of the teaching of the truths. There are five words here, and there are two explanations of self-nature.

Again, it should be understood as before. Because it is harmful and depressing, it is suffering. Because the cause is assembled, it is the origin. Because it ceases and is exhausted, it is cessation. Because it goes forth, it is the path. Through the four, such as fully understanding, the four noble truths are separated and shown, that is, fully understanding the truth of suffering, completely abandoning the truth of origin, not making the truth of cessation manifest, and cultivating the truth of the path. In many ways, the self-nature of the elements, the diversity of the elements, the dividedness of the elements, complete abandonment, and complete understanding are also taught, which is called the third, showing the door of the elements. The explanation of self-nature should be understood as before. The two middle sentences are like this: the nature of the eighteen elements that are different from each other is called the diversity of the elements. These eighteen elements themselves become the difference of the support of limitless sentient beings, which is called the diversity of the elements, and should be understood as explained in the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice. Complete abandonment and complete understanding are also combined as before. In many ways, the self-nature of mindfulness, the antidote, the unfavorable aspects, cultivation, and the arising of the unborn, the abiding of the born, not abandoning, arising again, and increasing and expanding are also taught, which is called the fourth, the differentiation of the mindfulness and so on. This also has two ways: showing mindfulness and showing the other five similar doors. The first has five words, and there are two explanations of self-nature, which should be understood like the aggregates. These four mindfulnesses are the nature of wisdom. Because they abide in objects such as the body, they are called mindfulness from the reason of wisdom abiding, that is, because they are in accordance with mindfulness and abide in objects such as the body, they are called mindfulness. This is the closest explanation among the six explanations. As the latter sentence says, it becomes the antidote to the four inversions, and
