Who encompasses it? It is said: It is like showing that it is encompassed by one. Some teachings also possess both, such as in the treatises of the Mind-Only school, which say: 'It is conceptual thought, arising from conditions.' Just like that, for the time being, it should be considered that the other-dependent is shown in the aspect of complete defilement. The other-dependent in the aspect of complete purification is because it is the perfectly established. Or, all the completely defiled and completely purified minds and mental factors are called complete imputation, because the mind focuses on the object. Then, all the other-dependent aspects of complete defilement and complete purification are encompassed by the other-dependent explained here. Therefore, in the Compendium on the Great Vehicle, it is said that without the other-dependent, complete defilement and purification themselves would not be established. Master Vasubandhu says in his commentary: 'Thus, when the nature of the other-dependent becomes completely imputed, it becomes completely defiled, and when there is no conceptual thought, it becomes completely purified, because it has two parts, so the nature does not become one.' Master Asanga's commentary also shows the same. In this sutra, the latter is shown, but the former is not, because it is said to be the nature of the perfectly established only in suchness. Or, the former is shown, but the latter is not, because it is said to be dependent arising only in the completely defiled dharma. Or, it also has both meanings, because of the first two explanations. The extensive differentiation should be understood as it appears from the explanation of the three natures. Twenty-third fascicle. Son of lineage, just as the eye of a person with cataracts has the fault of cataracts, so too should the nature of complete imputation be understood. From this point onwards, it shows the second explanation, which uses metaphors to repeat and explain. This can also be divided into two: using the realm of cataracts and completely pure eyes as an example with the three natures, and the lineage of

From the syllable "u" downwards, the example of crystal appearing in four colors is used to illustrate. The first three examples are also divided into three types: examples with the defect of cataracts, examples with various signs of cataracts, and examples where the eyes are completely pure and practice in the realm of their own nature. Each example is also shown in two ways: by stating the example, and by combining the example with the meaning. This is the first example showing the defect of cataracts, and the meaning of this example is as follows: For example, due to the presence of cataracts in the eyes, the consciousness of the eye and the simultaneous consciousness of the mind are produced. Due to the action of these two consciousnesses, in two moments, the consciousness of the mind of conceptual thought will recognize hair whorls and other things. There are also two types of hair whorls: the first is what is conjectured by the consciousness of the mind of conceptual thought, but in reality there is no hair whorl. This is what is called the fault of cataracts, and this fault is used to illustrate the self-nature of complete imputation. The second is the place and dependence of the consciousness of the mind of conceptual thought, which is like the characteristic of a hair whorl. The various signs of cataracts are used to illustrate other-dependence, which should be understood as explained later. Here, because the fault is used to illustrate the self-nature of complete imputation, it is said that the characteristics of complete imputation are also the same. Alternatively, the so-called fault of cataracts is that cataracts themselves are the fault, which is said like this: For example, due to the action of conjecture, other-dependence is produced, just as due to the action of cataracts, hair whorls and other things appear. Therefore, in the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice, it is said: For example, when the eyes have defects such as cataracts, the signs of cataracts such as tangled hair are clearly seen. If this defect does not exist, it will not be seen, and only one's own self-nature will be seen, and there will be no inverted clinging. Why? If someone asks why the example of the self-nature manifested by other-dependence is used to illustrate, the answer is: it is a mistake.
