Therefore, everything is called 'dependent on others.' This dependence on others is said to be of two types: completely afflicted and completely purified. Therefore, in the treatises of the Mind-Only school, everything, both with and without defilements, is dependent on others, because they arise relying on many other causes and conditions. In the verses, it is said to be conceptual thought, because it is said to arise from causes and conditions, so for the time being, it should be understood that this refers to the dependent nature of the completely afflicted side. In this sutra as well, it is similarly taught about complete affliction, and not about complete purification. Among them, with the phrases 'because this exists, that exists,' and so on, first the objects are shown, and then they are explained separately. Among them, the difference between the first two words, as it is said in the Abhidharma-kosa of the Sarvastivada school: 'Why did the Bhagavan speak the first two words?' Answer: 'This is to show that because this arises, that exists, and because this is born, that is born, thereby thoroughly revealing dependent origination. In order to thoroughly understand this, relying on ignorance, the formations will exist, but the formations do not exist apart from ignorance. Furthermore, this is also to thoroughly reveal the continuous arising of the limbs, that is, if this limb exists, then that limb exists, and the power of that limb arising also thoroughly reveals the arising of other limbs. Furthermore, this is also to thoroughly reveal the arising in the three times, that is, relying on the past extreme, the present extreme will exist, and the power of the present extreme arising also thoroughly reveals the arising of the future extreme. Furthermore, this is also to thoroughly reveal the two kinds of proximate causes, that is, the formations arise immediately from ignorance, or the formations arise through mutual force. Some say that the limb of formations arises immediately after the end of the limb of ignorance, which is called arising immediately. After the formations have given rise to ignorance, the limb of formations arises below the unmanifested mind, which is called the limb of formations arising through mutual force.' Some say that ignorance and formations

Reliance on (something) is called arising from the immediately preceding thing. Reliance on ignorance, consciousness, etc., is called arising through mutual power. Some other teachers say: Like this, these two words were spoken to destroy the (view) that speaks of no cause and permanent cause. It is said like this. The establishment and destruction of each exist, just as the treatise itself says. When the teachers explain these two words, they say that these two words are the continuousness of cause and effect, and the excellent display of arising. Like this, relying on ignorance, actions (འདུ་བྱེད།) etc. are continuous, and that continuousness is also because of the power of ignorance, so actions arise. Similarly, one producing one should also be explained extensively, and the extensive explanation should be understood from where it conforms to the reasoning of the correct treatise, as shown in the treatise. From the *Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra* it is also said, why is it that when this exists, this arises? The answer is: Because of not abandoning the condition, it arises from it for the sake of other things. Why is it that when this arises, this arises? The answer is: Because the condition is impermanent, it arises from it for the sake of other things. From the *Abhidharmasamuccaya*, what is the characteristic? Like this, because it arises from the immovable (thing), and because it arises from the impermanent condition, and because it arises from the powerful condition, it is the characteristic of arising from conditions. Because of that characteristic, the Bhagavan said: When this exists, this arises; when this arises, this arises. Like this, from the condition of ignorance, actions arise, etc., until the extensive explanation. When this exists, this arises, this shows the meaning of arising from the immovable condition. Because only temporary conditions exist, the existence of the resulting dharma ends, and there is nothing to shake the condition that causes the result to arise. When this arises, this arises, this shows the meaning of arising from the impermanent condition. From the cause from which no dharma has arisen, the result
