Is it a word of pure nature, or not? That is gathered by the form aggregate and the formation aggregate. Some are the measure of the Dharma aggregate. The scriptures explain this in detail. Some are used in the true sense after the words such as aggregates, and are called antidotes. In the commentary here, it says: Some teachers think that the measure of each of the eighty thousand Dharma aggregates is only the measure of the scriptures called Dharma aggregates. Thus, each of them has six thousand verses. Some say that the Dharma aggregates are after the words such as aggregates, and each is different, so there are eighty thousand, such as aggregates, places, realms, etc. In order to tame the sentient beings who have attachment, hatred, etc. and have different behaviors, for the sake of the antidote of these eighty thousand, the Blessed One spoke of eighty thousand Dharma aggregates. The scriptures are widely explained, and are also in accordance with the statements in the Abhidharmakosha. In this regard, the first two teachers are afraid of the three true meanings appearing in the Abhidharmakosha. Therefore, the scriptures say that if it is not for the sake of the words such as aggregates, not for the sake of no aggregates, not for the sake of the antidote to the disease behavior of sentient beings, then these explanations will become meaningless. This is consistent with the subsequent statement. In the Abhidharmakosha, there are three different statements. The first teacher thinks that the Tathagata separately said eighty thousand Dharma aggregates, and each aggregate is the same as the scriptures called the place of Dharma aggregates, with six thousand verses. The second teacher thinks that the aggregates and places themselves are called eighty thousand. The third teacher thinks that there are eighty thousand according to the degree of disease behavior. In the Mahavibhasa, there are six statements, the first two and the sixth are consistent with the statements in the Abhidharmakosha.

The three kinds of explanations given below are as follows: The monk Rab Yang said that each collection of teachings has fifty-five hundred and fifty-five thousand five hundred and fifty verses. Other teachers said that each collection of teachings has fifteen hundred and fifty-five thousand five hundred and fifty verses. Still others said that each collection of teachings has five hundred and fifty-five thousand five hundred and fifty verses. Here, combining the views of the great vehicle teacher Nagarjuna, in the commentary on the chapter of means in the Perfection of Wisdom, it says: Furthermore, because beings who engage in desire have twenty-one thousand faculties, for the sake of those faculties, the Thus-Gone Ones taught eighty-four thousand antidotal teachings. First, bodhisattvas are very pleased to show the order of antidotal teachings after those. Because beings who engage in hatred have twenty-one thousand faculties, first for the sake of those, the Thus-Gone Ones taught eighty-four thousand antidotal teachings. Bodhisattvas are very pleased to show the order of antidotal teachings after those faculties. Because beings who engage in delusion have twenty-one thousand faculties, for the sake of those faculties, the Thus-Gone Ones taught eighty-four thousand antidotal teachings. Bodhisattvas are very pleased to show the order of antidotal teachings after those faculties. Because beings who are balanced have twenty-one thousand faculties, for the sake of those faculties, the Thus-Gone Ones taught eighty-four thousand antidotal teachings. Bodhisattvas are very pleased to show the order of antidotal teachings after those faculties. This is called the unobstructed wisdom of fearlessness of the bodhisattvas. Therefore, the intention of the treatise is this: The Thus-Gone Ones, for the sake of four kinds of beings, briefly taught eighty-four thousand doors of Dharma. From that, bodhisattvas taught twenty-one thousand in detail for each being, therefore, combining them into eighty thousand

There will be four thousand. As it is said in the Sutra of the Fortunate Aeon: Since each of the three hundred and fifty doors has six perfections, the perfections will be two thousand one hundred. To counteract the diseases of the four great elements and the six kinds of hatred, there will be twenty-one thousand. Similarly, for the sake of counteracting the four kinds of internal phenomena such as desire, there will be eighty-four thousand. As it is said. Furthermore, if the commentary on the Prajnaparamita by the teacher Yangdak Dhenpa is combined with the Vijnapti, there is no contradiction in meaning. If it is combined with the treatise of the noble Maitreya, in the explanation of the Buddha-bhumi, what are the eighty-four thousand kinds of mental activities? For example, the eighty-four thousand stains of the activities of sentient beings are the obstacles to the eighty-four thousand perfections, the doors of dharani, and the doors of samadhi, etc. The characteristics of these are extensively explained in the Sutra of the Fortunate Aeon, and will be described here. As it is said in the sutra: For example, one should first cultivate the perfection of the Dharma that is used only at the beginning. Similarly, the last is the perfection of adorning the body of the Buddha. Each of the three hundred and fifty doors has six perfections, so that when all are added together, there will be two thousand one hundred. For the antidote to the activities of sentient beings with desire, hatred, ignorance, and equanimity, there are eight thousand four hundred. If the meanings produced by the four great elements and the six meaningless ones are removed, and multiplied by ten times, counting as one, there will be eighty-four thousand. In order to fully cultivate this, furthermore, the eighty-four thousand such as the doors of dharani and samadhi will be completely perfected. This is a brief indication, but if elaborated, it is immeasurable. As it is said. Therefore, if indicated briefly, it is eighty-four thousand. If indicated extensively, it is immeasurable. The detailed explanation of the eighty-four thousand should be understood as it appears in the Sutra of the Fortunate Aeon, etc.
