O. So, the so-called "previous nine dharmas" are like this: the five omnipresent [mental factors] and the four afflictions. The four afflictions are like this: ignorance of self, view of self, pride of self, and love of self. It is said in the scriptures that there are no other mental factors besides the mental factors, and it should be understood as stated in the scriptures. The eighth consciousness, which is without outflows, corresponds to twenty-one mental factors, namely the five omnipresent [mental factors], the five object-specifying [mental factors], and the eleven virtuous [mental factors]. The difference is that the wisdom of discrimination also corresponds to investigation and analysis in the causal stage, because they have not yet been able to control things like medicine and disease. When one reaches the Buddha-ground, there is no investigation or analysis, and even without investigation and analysis, the things to be done can be accomplished. The extensive explanation is as stated in the scriptures. The meanings of mind, intellect, and consciousness should be understood as stated in other treatises that extensively explain their nature. The explanation of their meaning is also divided into two types: revealing the secret meaning of mind, intellect, and consciousness, and from "Wise one, thus" onwards, being skilled in distinguishing secrets and explaining the answers to the two questions previously asked. The first is also revealed in two ways: revealing the differences in the many names of the alaya consciousness, and from "Wise one, the consciousness that takes" onwards, revealing the differences in how the consciousnesses operate together. The first is revealed in four ways: revealing the seeds of consciousness, distinguishing the consciousness that takes, revealing the alaya consciousness, and revealing the name of the mind. This is the first part that explains the seeds of consciousness. The "all seeds" refer to the three types of habitual tendencies. That is to say, the alaya consciousness completely holds the three types of habitual tendencies, and therefore the continuous connection is uninterrupted, which is what it reveals. Therefore, in scriptures such as the *Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness-Only*, there are also

The connection of samsara is caused by habits. And if habits are briefly summarized, there are three types. Namely: the habit of expression, the habit of self-grasping, and the habit of the limb of existence. Seed consciousness also has two types: the first is the seed that is held by consciousness, which is called seed consciousness. The second is the consciousness that holds the seed, which is called seed consciousness. Although there are two types, here the emphasis is on explaining the consciousness that holds the seed, because it abides in the place where the limbs of the body arise, and it holds the seed, and the seed it holds is the three habits. Here, these three habits will be briefly explained, and these three habits will be distinguished through four ways: the explanation of the meaning of the words, the revelation of the essence, the revelation of the difference in producing results, and the distinction through four conditions. First, the explanation of the meaning of the words is revealed through the general and specific characteristics. The so-called "three habits" is a general name. "Three" is the statement of a number. "Habit" refers to expression. Because there is a part of the habit of the seed in the eighth consciousness, it is called habit. This is the explanation that includes numbers among the six explanations. And the name of the specific characteristic is established only in the explanation of the treatise, as it is said: "If habits are briefly summarized, there are three types." Among them, the habit of expression is like this: it is the proximate cause of each different conditioned dharma. Expression also has two types: expression that expresses meaning is the difference in the sound that expresses meaning. Expression that expresses objects is the mind and mental factors that cause the object to be included. The habit of self-grasping is like this: it is the seed of grasping self and what belongs to self in a non-real way. Self-grasping also has two types: innate self-grasping is
