Firstly, there are two aspects: praising the request and granting permission to explain. Praising the request is also divided into two: general and specific. This is the initial general presentation, because the meaning of what is requested is very profound and the benefits are vast, therefore, the words are repeated as "Excellent! Excellent!" In the commentary on the 'Ten Bhumis Sutra', it says, "'Excellent' is because the Dharma to be explained possesses complete virtue." In the 'Yogacarabhumi-sastra', it says, "'Excellent' is for praising the noble ones." In the commentary on the 'Perfection of Wisdom Sutra', it says, "'Excellent! Excellent!' is for expressing the fame of qualities." Furthermore, in the same text, because the words are trustworthy, the Tathagata is asked, and in order to dispel the doubts of many retinues and because of the great benefit, it is said, "Excellent!" In the 'Arya-anuttara-sthana-nirdesa-sutra', it is also said, "That which is not stained or attached despite having afflictions is called 'excellent'." "You, with vast intelligence, ask the Tathagata here about such profound meanings," and so forth, shows the second specific praise. This also has two aspects: praising the asking of profound meanings and praising the request as having benefits; this is the first. "Do you intend to ask this for the benefit and happiness of countless beings, for compassion towards the world, and for the sake of gods, humans, asuras, etc., and for the benefit, happiness, and attainment?" This is the second praise of the request as having benefits. This is also shown in two ways: the general presentation of benefits and the specific presentation of benefits starting from "compassion towards the world." To benefit and bring happiness to them, in the commentary on the 'Arya-buddhabhumi-vyakhyana', it says, "As it is said, giving benefit now is happiness, giving benefit in the future is benefit. Worldly is happiness, transcendental is benefit. Being free from sin is happiness, accumulating virtue is benefit. Merit is"

It is called happiness. Wisdom is called benefit, as it is said. Furthermore, the Great Vehicle Summary Commentary by Master Asanga shows five aspects, therefore, it says in the commentary itself: The realm of Dharma is completely pure, and the excellent wisdom establishes the benefit and happiness of all sentient beings. That which leads to the accumulation of virtuous causes is called benefit. That which causes the attainment of the fruit of happiness is called happiness. Furthermore, that which causes separation from sin is called benefit. That which causes the accumulation of virtue is called happiness. Furthermore, that which leads out of suffering is called benefit. That which bestows virtue is called happiness. This life and the next, mundane and supramundane, etc., should also be understood in the same way. Compassion for the world, etc., shows that there are two kinds of benefits. Among them, the so-called world is the world of the five aggregates, which is the Dharma that causes the body to manifest and be accomplished. The so-called gods and humans, etc., are the individuals composed of the aggregates, which are nominal designations based on the five aggregates. In the commentary on the Noble Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it is said: There are three kinds of worlds: the container world, the world of the five aggregates, and the world of sentient beings. Here, because the benefits of the teachings are distinguished, only the sentient beings of the five aggregates are shown, or the sentient beings to be benefited are called the world, and that which is understood and comprehended from among the retinue, which becomes the main part, is called gods and humans, etc. If someone asks: Didn't the verses say, "I have not shown this to the children"? Then why do you say compassion for the world and gods and humans, etc.? It is said: The intention of the teachings spoken by the Buddha is manifold. For example, if one can separate beings from sin and lead them to virtue, then both reasonable and unreasonable are included. If one leads them to unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, then the Bodhicitta

And the powerful one, it is said solely for the sake of those of uncertain lineage. Listen well, and I will explain to you the secret meaning of mind, intellect, and consciousness, which is the second permission to explain. Among them, "listen well" is explained by the teacher Yönten Jin as: "listen well" means the mind is one-pointed on the object. The treatise *Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra* says: "listen well" means, like this, this kind of characteristic dharma, definitely listen, it is an exhortation. The wise one should know thus: in this cycle of six realms, whatever sentient beings belong to those kinds of sentient beings, whether they are born from eggs, or born from wombs, or born from moisture, or born from miraculous birth, the limbs of the body arise, from this point onwards, it shows the complete answer as if asked, that is, mind, intellect, and consciousness are the eight consciousnesses, therefore, here first shows the difference of the eight consciousnesses, and after that, the characteristics of the difference between mind, intellect, and consciousness are truly explained. It is also summarized and shown in six meanings, that is, showing the quantity of numbers, explaining the meaning of words, showing the nature, showing the place and faculties, showing the object of focus, and showing correspondence with many mental factors. Among them, showing the quantity of numbers, in the Hearer's canon it says that consciousness is only six, it does not show seven and eight, the details are as said in that. Here, if combined with the teachings of the Great Vehicle, there are two kinds of explanations, the first of which is by teachers like Nāgārjuna, who say that consciousness is only six, therefore, in the chapter on entering the true nectar in the treatise *Madhyamakahṛdayakārikā* composed by Bhāviveka, it says that among the six consciousnesses, there is no other ālaya-vijñāna, the six consciousnesses of the eye, etc.
