Earth, and so on. The so-called "complete meditation" is like this: through the wisdom of meditation. The previous three sentences show the merits obtained through extremely guarding. The so-called "decline," "increase," and "expansion" refer to, in order, not generating the thought of being satisfied only with these (merits). In the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra, only the names of these seven are mentioned, without detailed explanation. Some are to obtain mindfulness, as it is; some are to obtain right exertion, obtain supernatural powers, obtain the faculties, obtain the powers, obtain the limbs of enlightenment, and so on. This is the explanation of the second set of five "doors." Just as mindfulness has six words, right exertion, supernatural powers, the faculties, the powers, and the limbs of enlightenment should also be understood as having six words as before. Among them, the so-called five "doors," the first is the four right exertions, namely, to abandon the evil unwholesome dharmas that have already arisen, to prevent the evil unwholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen from arising, to generate the wholesome dharmas that have not yet arisen, and to make the wholesome dharmas that have already arisen abide, not be forgotten, and so on. In the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya, it is asked: Why is diligence called right exertion? The answer is: In the stage of abandoning (afflictions) with correct meditation, with the power of this diligence, laziness is abandoned. Or it is called "right victory," because in the correct effort of body, speech, and mind, this is the most excellent. The scriptures the Nyāyānusāra-śāstra and the Mahāvibhāṣā-śāstra also have similar explanations of this. In the commentary on the Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it is said: Because one holds to wrong dharmas and walks on the right path, it is called right exertion. Furthermore, it is said in the same sutra: Because effort and diligence are generated with four kinds of diligent minds, it is called right exertion. Among them, the difference in nature is...

It is said that diligence is the essence of all teachings of the Greater and Lesser Vehicles. The basis of miraculous powers is as follows: the four bases of miraculous powers are aspiration, diligence, mind, and contemplation's samadhi. In the Treasury Treatise, it is said: Why is samadhi called the basis of miraculous powers? Because it becomes the place of special qualities. Some other teachers say that miraculous power is samadhi, and the basis is as follows: aspiration and so on. The nature of the limbs of enlightenment is thirteen, because they are produced by aspiration and mind. The Vaibhashikas say: On top of the eleven limbs of enlightenment, adding aspiration and mind, it becomes thirteen entities. Furthermore, the sutra says: I will explain to you the basis of miraculous powers and so on. Miraculous power is as follows: experiencing various realms of miraculous power, transforming from one into many, and so on, up to the extensive explanation. The basis is as follows: the four samadhis of aspiration and so on. It is like this. Here, the Bhagavan called the fruit of samadhi miraculous power. He called the samadhi of aspiration and so on the basis, and in the correct treatises, it mostly appears in accordance with this. Furthermore, in the Great Vaibhasha Treatise, it says: Because miraculous power becomes the place of special qualities, it is called the basis of miraculous power. The extensive explanation is as explained therein. Furthermore, in the commentary on the Noble Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it says: Because the mind is focused on one point and dwells comfortably on the object, it is called the foot of wish fulfillment. Furthermore, it also says therein that because the four correct abandonments cause the mind and so on to be distracted at times, samadhi gathers the mind, therefore it is called the foot of wish fulfillment. Furthermore, it also says therein that because wishes are obtained through the power of wisdom and samadhi and so on, it is called the foot of wish fulfillment. The details are as explained therein.

O! In the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra, why is it called the "foot of magical power"? It is said: For example, just as one who has feet is able to walk, return, and subdue the opponent, similarly, whoever possesses these dharmas and fully possesses those samādhis, in that way the mind is completely pure, completely tamed, without afflictions, free from near afflictions, upright, abiding in fitness, and having attained immovability, then in order to attain and touch the supramundane dharmas, one is able to walk, return, and subdue the opponent. For example, those supramundane dharmas are excellent magical powers and excellent wealth, therefore it is called the "foot of magical power." This comes from extensive discussions. Among them, in all the teachings of the exoteric and esoteric vehicles that distinguish the nature of reality, the nature of samādhi is taught. Among them, what are called the faculties and the powers are the five faculties and the five powers, namely faith, diligence, mindfulness, samādhi, and wisdom. In the Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya, why were faith and so on previously called faculties, and later called powers? Because these five dharmas depend on the order of the small and large aspects. Furthermore, it is explained that this depends on being able to subdue and not being able to subdue. In the Nyāyānusāra-śāstra, why are faith and so on called faculties and powers? Because they are autonomous and difficult to subdue. Why were these five previously called faculties and then later called powers? Because depending on the small and large aspects of these five dharmas, in order to distinguish the order, and also because they abide in being able to subdue and not being able to subdue, small faith and so on, because their power is weak, can be subdued by opposing factors, while the large aspect is the opposite of this, it is the name of power.
