That is called the meditation of attainment. Therefore, in the treatise of the Treasury of Knowledge, there are four types of meditation: the meditation of attainment, the meditation of reliance, the meditation of antidote, and the meditation of prolongation. So, upon which dharma are these four meditations established? In the verses, it says: The two meditations of attainment and reliance are established upon the dharma of virtuous conditioned phenomena. Relying on the dharma with outflows, the meditations of antidote and prolongation are established. This is explained in the commentary: The two meditations of attainment and reliance rely on virtuous conditioned phenomena; future beings only have attainment, while present beings have both. The two meditations of antidote and prolongation rely on the dharma with outflows. Outflows and virtue are associated with all four virtues. Unconditioned phenomena without outflows, and other dharmas with outflows, are respectively associated with the former and latter two meditations in order. Extensive explanations are as taught in the Authentic Reasoning Scripture, the Conforming Scripture, and the Great Vibhasha. Here, when combined with the teachings of the Great Vehicle, they differ individually. In the Compendium of Abhidharma and the Compendium of Various Abhidharmas, it is taught that mindfulness and so forth are cultivated based on the four types of meditation. Furthermore, starting from the four right abandonments, four types of meditation are taught. Therefore, in that very treatise, it is also said that, in short, the distinctions of the meditations on the path are fourfold: the meditation of attainment, the meditation of reliance, the meditation of clarity, and the meditation of antidote. The meditation of attainment is to cultivate in order to generate virtuous dharmas that have not yet arisen. The meditation of reliance is to cultivate in order to maintain, not lose, bring forth, increase, expand, and abandon virtuous dharmas that have already arisen. The meditation of clarity is to cultivate in order to abandon sinful, non-virtuous dharmas that have arisen. The meditation of antidote is to

It says that what is cultivated in order not to arise the unwholesome dharmas that have not arisen. In this way, these four kinds of distinctions should be explained by combining them with the four correct abandonments as appropriate. The treatise "Yogacarabhumi-sastra" also shows it in accordance with this. If combined with this sutra itself, then only the first two cultivations are shown as the cultivation of mindfulness. Among them, the so-called attainment of the door of mindfulness is a summary explanation of the two cultivations. The so-called unborn arising is the separate explanation of the attained cultivation. The so-called born abiding, etc., is the separate explanation of the explained cultivation. Why are the latter two cultivations not explained? Answer: Because here it is only emphasized to explain the cultivation of virtuous dharmas, and does not clearly explain sinful unwholesome dharmas. Or it is also in accordance with the four, because the two cultivations are also included in the previous explanation of the antidote. The so-called mindfulness, unborn arising attainment, if combined with the treatise "Vibhajyavyakhyana", among them, "in order to generate the ungenerated virtuous dharmas" means that it has not yet been attained. The so-called virtuous dharmas refers to the three kinds of wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and cultivating, which are called virtuous for the sake of faultless meaning. The so-called in order to generate means in order to attain them. The so-called mindfulness, born abiding, not abandoning, arising again, increasing and expanding, in order to attain, this shows the cultivation of reliance. Regarding this, since the explanations of each teaching are inconsistent, therefore in the treatise "Vibhajyavyakhyana" it is explained as seven kinds, that is, in order to make the virtuous dharmas arise, abide, not forget, cultivate, perfect, arise again, increase and expand. Therefore, in that treatise itself, the so-called arising means that it has already been attained. The so-called abiding means with the wisdom that has been attained. The so-called not forgetting means with the wisdom of thinking.
