The term "all things" refers to the collection of all dharmas, both conditioned and unconditioned. The term "person" (pudgala) means re-joining, like sentient beings who, due to the power of virtuous and non-virtuous actions, repeatedly take rebirth in samsara, hence it is called re-joining. The meaning of selflessness also has two aspects: the emptiness of sentient beings and the emptiness of dharmas. Here, the former is indicated, not the latter, therefore it is said the selflessness of the person. Actually, there are four aspects, so why isn't emptiness mentioned? The answer is that here it is due to the three seals of the Dharma, namely, all contaminated things are suffering, all conditioned things are impermanent, and all dharmas are pervaded by selflessness, but emptiness is not established in this way, so it is not mentioned here. Among them, the nature of impermanence etc. cannot be said to be one with the dharmas of formations etc., because things and meanings are not different. Nor can it be said to be different, because there is no nature of otherness. Therefore, in the Thirty Verses composed by Master Vasubandhu, it is said: "The nature of other-power is, Discrimination arises from conditions, Achievement is prior to that, Because it is always without existence. Therefore, that itself from, Other conditions is neither different nor non-different, Like impermanence etc. it is said, Without seeing that, one does not see it." In the commentary on this, it is said that the perfectly established nature is neither different nor non-different from the other-powered nature. If it were a different entity, then suchness would not be its true nature. If it were not a different entity, then this nature would also become impermanent. Both of these would become objects of complete purity or complete impurity, then the power of wisdom obtained from the root and subsequent attainment would also become undifferentiated. If asked: How are the two natures neither different nor one? It is just like impermanence and selflessness etc. If impermanence etc. were different from the dharmas of formations etc., then those dharmas would not be...

It is the kind that changes into impermanence and so on. If it is not different, then those would not be common characteristics. Therefore, this example shows that the independence of the other, which is completely established, is neither one nor different. Dharma and Dharmata are undoubtedly the same way. Because the ultimate truth and the conventional truth exist in dependence on each other. Furthermore, for example, the nature of the non-peace of desire and the nature of all afflictions are also not easy to establish as the same nature as that of desire or as a different nature. Just as with desire, anger and ignorance should also be understood in the same way. The tenth, which is said, is an example showing that the nature and characteristics of afflictions are neither one nor different. Desire, anger, and ignorance have two characteristics. First, their own characteristics are like this: because desire, anger, and so on are each different. Second, the common characteristic is like this: because all afflictions and so on are commonly present. There are also two kinds of common characteristics: the nature of non-peace is like this, because it is moving. The nature of all afflictions is because the two, being equally possessed and the bondage of the object, are mixed. In this way, because the essence and characteristics of desire and so on are different, it should not be said to be one. Because mixed desire and so on are different, it should not be said to be different. Each of desire and anger and so on has the characteristic of non-peace and the characteristic of all afflictions. In all the treatises of all schools, it is also considered to be included in the Dharma-sphere. Here, if it is combined with the reasoning that "all formations and so on are the common characteristics of impermanence and so on," it seems that all twelve spheres can be understood. Why is it said here that only the Dharma-sphere is included? Answer: The Sarvastivadins say that all formations and all impermanence and so on are included in the twelve spheres. Then the Dharma-sphere is also only a distinction.
