This is a presentation of different examples. The conch is presented as an example of the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, because the four realms are different. Whiteness itself is presented as an example of the ultimate truth, because the nature of form pervades all. Just as the conch and whiteness itself cannot be said to be one, so too the nature of form of the four realms is different because of the general and specific characteristics. Or, because the general and specific characteristics are different, it cannot be said to be different either, because there is no different self-nature. In the 'Memorandum of True Reality' by the teacher, the third example is: This is to fully show the methods for sharp and dull faculties. If only the meaning is explained, and no examples are given, then only those with sharp faculties can understand, but those with dull faculties cannot. If both the example and the meaning are fully shown, then both sharp and dull faculties will be able to understand, therefore, this is symbolizing a profound principle in relation to something that is not very profound. Here, the six realms are also presented as examples, if one aspect is understood, the others can be understood by analogy. If it is said that whiteness itself and the conch are one, then form would only be the conch, and the four great elements of the other three realms would not be the conch. Furthermore, just as whiteness is only the realm of the eye, so too should the conch be. Or, just as whiteness pervades other things, so too should the conch. But the conch is not like that, so whiteness itself will not pervade things either. Because there is no such reason, it cannot be said to be one. If it is said to be different, that is also unreasonable, because when whiteness is seen, it should be known to be the conch, because the self-nature is different. Furthermore, the place of whiteness itself would not exist, because it is not related to the conch. Yellowness itself is like gold, and so on up to the tangible, as it is said in detail there. Just as the whiteness of the conch is, so too is the yellowness of gold, these are two.
