So! The extensive explanation of the faults of the five obscurations should be understood as taught in the commentary on the Prajñāpāramitā. If combined with the treatises of the Sarvāstivāda school, it is said that whoever enters into actual samādhi is only joy, not bliss. Here, if combined with the teachings of the Mahāyāna, whatever mental ease there is in an instant is called joy. Whatever physical sensation of ease there is is called bliss. Therefore, in the 'Exposition of the Scriptures,' it is said that the first dhyāna is also called bliss. The meaning of this example is as follows: Just as, because of the power generated by attachment to desire, the suffering of desire arises in the five objects of desire, therefore, being separated from the five qualities of desire, one does not attain the bliss of the first dhyāna. Similarly, those who have conceptualization and analysis cannot comprehend the suchness that is devoid of characteristics, devoid of signs, and separated from characteristics such as form. It will be taught in this way. Those who have long been devoted to common speech, and who delight in and are attached to worldly common speech, cannot contemplate, recollect, or have faith in the inner solitude, the bliss of the noble silence. This is called the third example of the noble, silent solitude. This is indeed the bliss of solitude that is more solitary than solitude. Therefore, in the 'Yogācārabhūmi,' it is said that the samādhi of the second dhyāna and above, whatever pacifies conceptualization and analysis, is called the bliss of solitude. Thus, it is said in the scriptures that the three types of formations are manifestly accomplished. Among them, the first is the bodily formation, which is the movement of the inner and outer breath. Because the bodily formation is manifestly accomplished, it is called the bodily formation, and it is completely eliminated upon entering the fourth dhyāna. The second is the verbal formation, which is the arising of conceptualization and analysis as the verbal formation, so it is called the verbal formation, and the second dhyāna can completely eliminate it. The teachings of the Greater and Lesser Vehicles speak of it in this way. Second dhyāna
