It is called "ground." Virtues of special meditative concentration and minds that are neither indicative nor non-indicative are called "only with investigation but without examination." Virtues from the second meditative concentration up to the peak of existence, and minds that are neither obscured nor indicative, are called "grounds without examination and without investigation," as it is said. Here, if combined with the Mahayana scriptures, as it is said in the Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness Only: "Examination is the speech of the mind that seeks everywhere, and its nature is to enter coarsely. Investigation is the speech of the mind that individually observes, and its nature is to enter finely." Both of these also have the function of being the basis for the body and mind to abide in contact and not abide in contact, and are the nature of one aspect of intention and wisdom. It is also not possible for two dharmas to exist simultaneously in one moment, because they are different in order of precedence due to the coarse and fine aspects. As it is said, to explain extensively, one should understand as it is taught in the Grounds of Yoga Practice, the Reasoning of Explanations, and the Treatise on the Establishment of Consciousness Only, and so on. The master Xuanzang also said that the Treatise on the Grounds of Yoga Practice establishes the difference between the three grounds, considering the separation from the desire for one's own nature. Thus, the conditioned dharmas from the desire realm to the first meditative concentration are called "with examination and with investigation" because they have not completely abandoned the desire for their own nature. The conditioned dharmas of special meditative concentration are called "without examination but only with investigation" because they are separated from the desire for the lower ground. The conditioned dharmas from the second meditative concentration to neither perception nor non-perception are called "grounds without examination and without investigation" because the desire for their own nature is separated from examination and investigation, and to explain extensively, it is as it is said in the commentary on the Grounds of Yoga Practice. Therefore, the statement here that it transcends examination and investigation is also said considering this examination and investigation. The second is some

If someone says that the "investigation and analysis" mentioned here refers to the mind and mental phenomena of the three realms with outflows, it is called investigation and analysis. This is included in the discrimination among the five dharmas. There are also two types of investigation and analysis: the first is the four types of investigation and analysis of the desire realm, which are said to be the nature of consciousness, because they universally seek names and so on, but are not yet certain. The second is the investigation and analysis mentioned here, which refers to the minds and so on of the three realms with outflows, and therefore it is called investigation and analysis. Therefore, the noble Dharma reasoning believes that the ultimate truth is completely beyond all characteristics of the objects of investigation and analysis. This is called the second conclusion, which is just a particle. Furthermore, the noble Dharma says that the ultimate truth is the object of no characteristics, while investigation and analysis are used in the object of characteristics, etc., which shows the second object of no characteristics. This is also an explanation and conclusion, this is an explanation. In the Sutra of Definitive Explanation of Words and Sentences, it says, "I said that it is not the object of characteristics." The teacher said in the True Memorandum that the object of characteristics is like this: the characteristics of the eighteen realms, the objects of the six senses, the birthplaces of the six consciousnesses, and the six faculties. These faculties, objects, and consciousnesses are the objects of investigation and analysis, while Suchness is not the object of investigation and analysis. Therefore, it is not included by the eighteen realms. Here, the new translation says, "It is the object of no characteristics." The explanations of this object of no characteristics also differ from each other. Some say that because it focuses on the object of non-discrimination, it is called no characteristics, because it completely abandons the characteristics of the grasper and the grasped. If combined with this explanation, because it is the object of the object of no characteristics, it is called the object of no characteristics. This is in terms of the master
