These were spoken. Those Tathagatas, for the benefit of sentient beings who should be tamed by the Buddhas, having done various things as appropriate, appearing to have perfected the deeds of the Buddhas, wishing to show Nirvana, in order to fully ripen the remaining beings, please do not enter the city of Nirvana, abandoning the aggregates completely in the realm of Nirvana without remainder. Please do not leave sentient beings without a protector. Please accomplish the benefit for the remaining beings as in the previous aspirations. I prostrate with great effort, folding my palms and so forth, I pray. Exhortation is merely exhortation to those who wish to do it themselves. Therefore, supplication and exhortation are different from supplication because they are the nature of effort and non-effort. Thinking, for how long should I supplicate to stay? It was said, "Also to stay for as many eons as there are dust motes in a field," and so on. Because the benefit of sentient beings is limitless, I supplicate to stay for as many eons as there are atoms in all Buddha-fields. Therefore, it is said thus, however much the realm of sentient beings exists, that much benefit has not been completely accomplished. Therefore, it shows that those who strive for that purpose will not completely pass into Nirvana. Thinking, why should I supplicate to stay? It was said, "For the benefit and happiness of all beings." "For the benefit of all beings" means the entire realm of sentient beings without exception. Benefit means turning away from all non-virtuous dharmas and entering into all virtuous dharmas, or obtaining the cause of happiness in this life and future lives, and permanently. Happiness means gods and humans. Or, the ultimate of happiness is Nirvana, and for that purpose I supplicate to stay. Now, having gathered together by means of skillfully dedicating all the vows of how to uphold without interruption that which arises from the accumulation of merit, the extraordinary purity of intention, completely dedicating it to the extraordinary fruit. In order to make it vast again, it was said, "Prostrating," and so on. Among these, I prostrate to the infinite Buddhas with the body of self-nature and faith.

Those differences of mind that are directed towards (the Buddha) are shown in the words of prostration. Offering refers to the distinctions of mind encompassed by offering limitless offerings to limitless Buddhas. Confession refers to the nature of the mind-stream of confessing before all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas the roots of all non-virtue arising from actions done, caused to be done, and rejoiced in, and arising from desire, hatred, and ignorance, committed through body, speech, and mind. Rejoicing refers to the aggregate of mind abiding in rejoicing in the limitless accumulation of merit from actions done, caused to be done, and rejoiced in by all Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and ordinary beings. Requesting to turn the wheel of Dharma refers to the differences of mind encompassed by pursuing the meaning, by individually respecting and attending to the Buddhas who have manifested complete enlightenment in order to accomplish the benefit of sentient beings, and by urging them to generate respect for the Dharma, and so on. Supplication refers to supplicating those who, having completely accomplished their own deeds, wish to depart to the city of Nirvana without remainder, and it is the arising of the most excellent mind encompassed by the cessation that is preceded by prostration. Thus, in the manner described above, by the special quality of having completely purified one's own mind-stream, whatever limitless accumulation of merit has been accumulated, that is placed before the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, who have power, and dedicated to enlightenment with a mind agitated by the jewel of supreme faith. One must ascertain the unsurpassed excellence of the fruit, for this is a vow to quickly accomplish that meaning. Therefore, in order to completely gather the accumulation of merit, this inconceivable and excellent means is the characteristic of what is attained through the practice of the great Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. Even hearing it with a mind generated by faith purifies the mind-stream, so what need is there to say if one constantly practices it, like practicing three times a day? Therefore, this is...
