To speak of the merit of preceding with prostrations is to prostrate with speech. To prostrate with the mind is to manifest the essence of its merit and to aspire to it. Prostration is sometimes done for others as well, therefore it is distinguished by the word "with devotion." Devotion is also of three kinds: merely following with faith, like not understanding the reality of tenets, is devotion arising only from correctly stating the qualities of the Buddha, this is small. Following the Dharma is arising from fully understanding the reality of the meaning of the Great Vehicle, therefore it is much more excellent. Obtaining realization is obtaining devotion from realizing the reality of the Dharma directly, this is even more excellent than that. The word "with devotion" is used because it does not particularly distinguish, so it appropriately includes all three kinds. This shows prostration with essence, now to show aspiration, it is said "with the power of the aspirations of the Good Conduct," etc. "Field" refers to completely encompassing all Buddha-fields. The word "dust" is جمع (samgraha, samgraha, collection) of all fine dust. "Equal to those fine dusts" refers to those bodies that are equal to the number of those fine dusts, they are called "that many," that is, with those bodies equal to the number of dusts of the field. Thus it is said, with those bodies equal to the number of fine dusts of all Buddha-fields, I prostrate to all the Victorious Ones. This shows that for each of the Tathagata's teachings, which are not limited by time and place, and for each of the aspirations that will arise below, one also prostrates with bodies equal to the number of dusts of the field. All of this is not with the mind looking outward. What then? Rather, thinking in the mind as if each Tathagata is abiding in front, one prostrates with great reverence with that many bodies of reverence. To show that very thing, it is said, "All the Victorious Ones are manifest in the mind." What is that like? Thinking this, it is said, "With the power of the aspirations of the Good Conduct," etc. "Good" refers to the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra.

Therefore, since one does not cling to any actions done by afflictions, and because one practices perfect conduct in all aspects, one appears magnificent in all ways, and is therefore called Samantabhadra. And the aspiration of the characteristics of his conduct is the Aspiration of Samantabhadra's Conduct. By its power, that is, by the power of its oral instructions, I prostrate to all those Tathagatas. Thus, it was taught to the noble Norzang in this way. Thus, firstly, it shows the vastness by the differences in intention aimed at prostrating to the Buddha, such as prostrating to the essence itself. As many Tathagatas as there are, there are also that many differences in Bodhisattvas. This action, because it is done by the function of wisdom, this act of completely subduing one's mind can also be called the accumulation of merit, and can also be called the accumulation of wisdom. Prostrating with faith is because one follows bodies equal to the number of all atoms, and in order to make all Buddhas manifest, it further shows that the conduct is extremely vast, extremely profound, and extremely subtle. In order to show the Tathagata of faith, it is said, "On a single atom," and so on. On a single atom, with the wisdom of faith, one manifests Tathagatas equal to the number of atoms in all Buddha-fields. Those are not just a single Tathagata. What are they then? They are mandalas with Bodhisattva retinues. Those are not other actions. What are they then? They are dwelling. Just as on a single atom of dust, so too on each atom of dust in all Buddha-fields, one manifests, therefore it is taught in this way. Thus, it is said, "All realms of Dharma without exception." By this, it is also shown that saying each atom shows that the vessels enter into the subtle. By saying between the realms of Dharma, it shows that they enter without exception. By saying all, it shows that they enter without interruption. Similarly, saying the Buddha's sons and saying dwelling shows that the dwellers have retinues, have excellent places, and are countless.
