Having become accustomed to acting in accordance with Bodhisattvas of equal status, it shows how to please spiritual friends with words such as, "May I have friends who wish to benefit me." Who are the ones from whom refuge arises for me? They are friends. The term "wishing to benefit me" refers to those who cause the attainment of supreme enlightenment. In samsara, may I meet and always accompany those who wish to help me in the greatest of samsaric times, who possess the nature of great love, and who bestow the undeviating teachings of Samantabhadra's conduct. Is it just sometimes? No, it is said, "Always." At all times, until the attainment of the most supreme and perfect enlightenment of all. Thinking, "What should I do for those who have entered for the sake of such benefit?" it is said, "Never dishearten them." That is, never cause them to be disheartened by not acting with body, speech, and mind in contradiction to their teachings. One should always please them by being diligent in genuine practice. This shows the perfection of skillful means, which is gathered by acting with devotion, having fully understood the means of pleasing spiritual friends. Thus, by taking responsibility for pleasing Bodhisattvas who are equal in status, having taken up armor, and through the power of aspiration, in order to truly please the unsurpassed spiritual friend in the supreme way and to view them as Buddhas, it is said, "I shall always directly see the Victorious Ones," and so forth. Directly means directly; one should see the Victorious Ones, those who have overcome the afflictions. Is it just sometimes? It is said, "Always," meaning at all times. Is it just the Victorious Ones alone? No. Then what is it? It is said, "The Protectors surrounded by the Sons of the Buddhas." Having realized self and others, awakened from the sleep of attachment to the appearance of things, and for the sake of becoming Buddhas themselves, these are the Buddhas. Their sons are the children, those born and arisen from the unerring teachings of the Dharma, these are the sons. One should connect the statement "always see" with the Protectors surrounded and completely encircled by those Sons of the Buddhas. Having seen such ones, what then?

Thinking about what to do? Make extensive offerings to them as well, it is said. To make offerings to those including Buddhas and Bodhisattvas is to display various special items, and to offer and delight with supreme or unsurpassed offerings such as flowers and jewels. How is it done? It is said to do it extensively, which means to do it without end in terms of material and intention. Until when? It is said to be all future kalpas, which refers to the present, past, and future. Because it is not yet come, it is the future, meaning it will come. Because the river of time is not short, it is a kalpa, and all future kalpas should be used for offerings without distinction. Not being weary means being most joyful. By showing the sight of the Buddha and the offerings, it shows the aspiration paramita held by faith and practice, because by the power of aspiration one can see the Buddha. Thus, after seeing and offering to those Tathagatas, what else should one do? It is said: Hold the pure Dharma of the Buddhas, and so on. Regarding the pure Dharma of the Buddhas, the Dharma of the saints is the pure Dharma. Or, it is both a saint and a Dharma, so it is the pure Dharma. To hold means to hold the words and meanings in an unforgettable way, and to manifest them in one's own mind, to hold the pure Dharma of the Buddhas, the nature of the teachings and realizations, and to practice in all future kalpas. Connect it in this way. Is it just holding the pure Dharma? No. Then what is it? It is said to fully display the Bodhi conduct. Bodhi is the wisdom of knowing all aspects. Therefore, conduct is Bodhi conduct, it is the method to obtain it, it is the characteristic of accomplishing the other shore. To fully display it is to fully and thoroughly explain it, with a mind without the defilement of stinginess and division, even if one goes to other worlds, one will never be weary of doing what is appropriate for sentient beings.
